Prudential Financial Inc. reported un-audited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended Sept. 30, 2009. For the quarter, the company reported net income attributable to company of $1,082 million on revenues of $8,564 million against net loss of $176 million on revenues of $7,030 million a year ago. Income from continuing operations was $1,036 million against loss of $176 million a year ago. For the nine months, the company reported net income attributable to company of $1,259 million on revenues of $24,029 million against net income of $465 million on revenues of $22,291 million a year ago. Income from continuing operations was $1,197 million against income of $498 million a year ago. The company will achieve Common Stock earnings per share for 2009 in the range of $5.40 to $5.60 based on after-tax adjusted operating income of the Financial Services Businesses.

For the quarter, the company reported net income per common share of $2.35 compared to $0.25 reported a year earlier. Adjusted operating income, which excludes net realized investment gains and losses, was $733 million or $1.59 per common share in the latest period.
