RealNetworks Inc. transitioned the music service for mobilkom austria group's (MAG) Si.mobil to its platform on November 12, 2009, adding all-you-can-eat functionality and upgrading the service to the company's mobile and PC client interface. This is the second deployment under the company's 4-year agreement with MAG, providing Si.mobil's nearly 600,000 subscribers with access to the most feature-forward mobile music service in Europe. Si.mobil offers a bundled plan, ORTO MUZIQ,which will include unlimited music, free in-network calls, 1,001 SMS, 1,001 MMS, access to the Vodafone live! portal and 100 MB of data for 15 euro/month. Alternatively, subscribers can choose to access the revamped MUZIQ portal, where they will be able to choose full-track downloads on their handsets or PCs from variety of genres and artists.

RealNetworks Inc. announced that Hank Skorny has been appointed by the Board of Directors as Senior Vice President, Media Cloud Computing and Services. Mr. Skorny has nearly 25 years of executive marketing, business development, and engineering experience. He has been a successful entrepreneur, serving as CEO of Thumbspeed Inc. which was acquired by OZ Communications Inc. and subsequently acquired by Nokia. Prior to founding Thumbspeed, Mr. Skorny held senior executive positions at Infospace Mobile and AOL Mobile. His career has included general management, senior product management and engineering positions at Adobe Systems, Microsoft and Apple Inc. Mr. Skorny serves on several boards, including TiE-The Indus Entrepreneurs and Enterprise Ireland.

RealNetworks Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended September 30, 2009. For the third quarter of 2009, revenue was $140.3 million, a decrease of 8%, compared with $152.0 million in the third quarter of 2008. Foreign currency exchange rate fluctuations negatively affected 2009 third quarter revenue by approximately $3.6 million compared with the year-ago quarter. Excluding the effects of these foreign exchange rate changes, revenue declined 5% year over year. Net income attributable to common shareholders for the third quarter of 2009 was $1.5 million, or less than $0.01 per share, compared with a net loss of $4.5 million, or $0.03 per share, in the third quarter of 2008. Adjusted EBITDA for the third quarter of 2009 was $16.1 million compared with $11.4 million in the third quarter of 2008. Loss before income taxes was $3.6 million against $16.1 million a year ago. Operating loss was $4.3 million against $26.9 million a year ago. For the nine months period, the company reported net loss attributable to shareholders of $198.9 million or $1.50 per diluted share on net revenue of $416.7 million against net loss attributable to shareholders of $3.4 million or $0.02 per diluted share on net revenue of $452.2 million reported for the same period a year ago. Loss before income taxes was $213.4 million against $24.1 million a year ago. Operating loss was $215.7 million against $51.2 million a year ago. Net cash used in operating activities was $16.5 million against $21.0 million a year ago. Purchases of equipment, software, and leasehold improvements were $11.4 million against $24.8 million a year ago. For the fourth quarter of 2009, the company expects overall revenue to increase sequentially but to decline year-over-year. Sequentially, the company expects revenue to increase in Games and Technology Products and Solutions, to be flat in Music, and to decline in Media Software and Services. Compared with the year-ago fourth quarter, the company expects fourth-quarter Media Software and Services and Technology Products and Solutions revenue to be flat, and expects revenue in Music and Games to decline.
