Silicon Graphics International Corp. designs, manufactures, and implements compute servers and storage systems in the United States. It offers a range of servers, including Half-Depth Rack-Mount servers for single or dual processor motherboards that support AMD and Intel 64-bit processors, and for 4 processor motherboards supporting the 32/64-bit AMD Opteron 800 Series processors; Standard-Depth Rack-Mount servers, such as C1104 and C2104 compute-specific standard-depth servers; ICE Cube-optimized rack-mount servers designed for the ICE Cube modular data center; Scale Out Series Blade servers for data center environments; and CloudRack systems focusing on cloud computing in data center environments. The company also provides Half-Depth and Standard-Depth Storage Servers, OmniStor Storage Arrays, and NetApp storage appliances and software. In addition, it offers technology solutions focusing on power management and power distribution, as well as hardware and firmware based remote management. Further, it offers service and support packages associated with installation and deployment, hardware break-fix support, and onsite hardware services. The company’s professional services include onsite cabling assistance and installation of third-party software, such as grid, clustering, and utility computing applications. It sells its products to customers in Internet businesses; and companies in vertical markets, including semiconductor design, enterprise software, federal government, entertainment, financial services, oil and gas exploration, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals. The company was formerly known as Rackable Systems, Inc. and changed its name to Silicon Graphics International Corp. in May 2009. Silicon Graphics International was founded in 1999 and is headquartered in Fremont, California.

Silicon Graphics International Corp. Unveils Altix(R) UV

Silicon Graphics International Corp. unveiled Altix UV, expanding the definition of supercomputing. SGI Altix UV is targeted at high-end supercomputing, very large-scale databases and data analytic environments. SGI Altix UV leverages next generation Intel(R) Xeon(R) x86 processors to deliver the fastest, most scalable shared memory supercomputer in the world. SGI Altix UV will be on display at Supercomputing 2009 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon, November 16-20, 2009, in booth #1721. Altix UV enables scaling from 32 to 2,048 cores with architectural provisioning for up to 262,144 cores, while supporting up to 16 terabytes of global shared memory in a single system image (SSI). Superior performance is built into every SGI Altix UV system, leveraging SGI's high speed 15GB per second interconnect NUMAlink(R) 5 and MPI Offload Engine (MOE) acceleration. Altix UV is available in two models: Altix UV 1000- For maximum scalability, Altix UV 1000 ships as a fully integrated cabinet-level solution with up to 256 sockets (2,048 cores) and 16TB of shared memory in four racks for up to 18.6 Tflops of performance. Altix UV 100 addresses the mid-range market based on an industry-standard 19' rackmount 3U form factor. This model scales to 96 sockets (768 cores) and 6TB of shared memory in two racks for up to 7.0 Tflops of performance.

For the quarter, on GAP basis, revenue was $100,123,000 against $65,097,000 a year ago. Loss from operations was $18,469,000 against $5,193,000 a year ago. Loss from continuing operations before tax was $17,740,000 against $4,503,000 a year ago. Loss from continuing operations was $17,802,000 or $0.60 per basic and diluted share against $4,965,000 or $0.17 per basic and diluted share a year ago. Net loss was $17,622,000 or $0.59 per basic and diluted share against $5,989,000 or $0.20 per basic and diluted share a year ago. On Non GAP basis, revenue was $122,701,000 against $65,097,000 a year ago. Loss from continuing operations before tax was $3,413,000 against $2,610,000 a year ago. Net loss from continuing operations was $597,000 or $0.02 per basic and diluted share against $1,135,000 or $0.04 per basic and diluted share a year ago.
