Eolas Technologies Incorporated announced a Texas federal lawsuit filed to assert the company's intellectual property rights based on two groundbreaking patents, including one that has passed two separate reexaminations at the United States Patent and Trademark Office and resulted in a $565 million federal court judgment in 2004. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas, includes claims related to two Eolas patents, U.S. Patent No. 5,838,906 ('906 Patent) and U.S. Patent No. 7,599,985 ('985 Patent). Eolas Technologies Inc. has sued a whole alphabet of 23 businesses, from Adobe to YouTube, claiming patent infringement. The defendants are Office Depot Inc., Perot Systems Corp., Playboy Enterprises International Inc., Rent-A-Center Inc., Staples Inc., Sun Microsystems Inc., Texas Instruments Inc., Yahoo Inc. and YouTube LLC. Eolas claims these businesses have infringed two patents-one of them granted in 1998 and the second granted covering ways to add media and other applications to web sites.
Staples Inc. announced that its board of directors has declared a quarterly cash dividend on the company's common stock of $0.0825 per share. The dividend is payable on October 15, 2009, to shareholders of record on September 25, 2009.
