Further, the company offers wholesale services for telecommunication operators, which include leased lines for other operators’ network deployment, as well as local loop leasing, under the unbundled local loop regulation framework. Telefonica’s mobile and related products and services include mobile voice services; mobile data and Internet services; wholesale services; mobile infrastructure in offices, private networking, and portals for corporate customers; roaming services; fixed voice telephony services through mobile networks; trunking and paging services; and M-payment services. The company was founded in 1924 and is headquartered in Madrid, Spain.

Telefonica SA has announced plans to invest $20 million (EUR 13.35 million) in 3.5G technology in El Salvador during 2010. In doing so, the company aims to improve its competitive edge against other firms including Digicel, Tigo and Claro. Telefonica will be investing between EUR 14 million ($20.98 million) and €16 million in the country between 2007 and 2010. This includes $2 million to be invested in renovating its 33 stores across the country.
Telefonica SA has launched HSPA+ in Spain. The upgraded network, providing download speeds of up to 21 Mbps, at first covers the business districts of Madrid and Barcelona, and will be gradually rolled out to the rest of the country. Similarly, in the first phase the service is available for business users, with consumer subscribers getting their own offering later this year. The company plans HSPA+ to cover all cities with over 250,000 inhabitants by late 2010, which according to the company would represent 78% of the population.
Telefonica SA distributed a dividend to be charged to Unrestricted Reserves of a gross amount of EUR 0.50 per share on November 11, 2009.
