Unilever N.V. and its subsidiaries produce and supply fast moving consumer goods in food, and home and personal care product categories in Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa. The company offers soups, bouillons, sauces, snacks, mayonnaise, salad dressings, olive oil, margarines, spreads, and frozen foods, as well as cooking products, such as liquid margarines under Knorr, Hellmann’s, Becel/Flora, Rama/Blue Band, Calvé, WishBone, Amora, Ragú, and Bertolli brands. It also provides ice creams under the international Heart brand, including Cornetto, Magnum, Carte d’Or and Solero, Wall’s, Kibon, Algida, Ola, Ben & Jerry’s, Breyers, Klondike, and Popsicle brands; tea-based beverages under Lipton, Brooke Bond, and PG Tips brands; weight management products under Slim•Fast brand; and nutritionally enhanced products under Annapurna and AdeS brands. In addition, the company offers personal care products comprising deodorants, anti-perspirants, skin care, and hair care products under Dove, Lux, Rexona, Sunsilk, Axe/Lynx, Pond’s, Suave, Clear, Lifebuoy, and Vaseline brands; and oral care products under Signal and Close Up brands. Further, Unilever provides laundry products, such as tablets, powders, liquids, and soap bars under Omo, Surf, Comfort, Radiant, and Skip brands; and household care products, including surface cleaners and bleach under Cif, Domestos, and Sun/Sunlight brands. It also offers solutions for professional chefs and caterers. The company sells its products through its sales force, independent brokers, agents, and distributors to chain, wholesale, co-operative, and independent grocery accounts; food service distributors and institutions; and a network of distribution centers, satellite warehouses, company-operated and public storage facilities, and depots. The company, formerly known as Naamlooze Vennootschap Margarine Unie, was founded in 1927 and is based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Unilever N.V. is a subsidiary of The Unilever Group.

Unilever NV announced earnings results for the third quarter of 2009. For the period, the company reported net profit fall 36%, mostly because earnings in the same period a year ago benefited from the sale of operations. The company made CAD 1.05 billion (USD 1.56 billion), down from CAD 1.64 billion in the same period last year, when the company booked a CAD 487 million gain on the sale of its seasonings businesses. Revenues were down 1.9% to CAD 10.2 billion. Despite the fall in profit, good progress across all regions and the majority of countries and categories, when compared with the second quarter of 2009.

Unilever NV will gradually reduce production at its Czech unit and plans to close it in the second quarter of 2010. All the 634 employees at the site will lose their jobs following the closure. The measure is necessary to simplify the production process, to save costs and accelerate innovations.
