United Parcel Service, Inc., a package delivery company, provides transportation, logistics, and financial services in the United States and internationally. The company operates in three segments: U.S. Domestic Package, International Package, and Supply Chain & Freight. The U.S. Domestic Package segment operations include time-definite delivery of letters, documents, and packages in the United States. The International Package segment provides air and ground delivery of small packages and letters to approximately 200 countries and territories, including shipments outside the United States and shipments with either origin or distribution outside the United States; export services; and domestic services move shipments within a country’s borders. The Supply Chain & Freight segment offers forwarding and logistics services, including supply chain design and management, freight distribution, customs brokerage, mail, and consulting services; and less-than-truckload and truckload services to customers in North America. In addition, it offers various technology solutions for automated shipping, visibility, and billing; service, information technology systems, and distribution facilities to various industries, such as healthcare, technology, and consumer/retail; and a portfolio of financial services that provides customers with short-term and long-term financing, secured lending, working capital, government guaranteed lending, letters of credit, global trade financing, credit cards, and equipment leasing. As of December 31, 2008, the company operated a fleet of approximately 107000 package cars, vans, tractors, and motorcycles, as well as an air fleet of approximately 570 aircraft. United Parcel Service, Inc. was founded in 1907 and is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.

Manheim Selects United Parcel Service to Manage Vehicle Transport

Manheim has selected United Parcel Service Inc. to oversee its entire supply chain for moving millions of used vehicles each year to the wholesale market. Manheim selected UPS because of its reputation as a global leader in supply chain and freight services, expertise in transportation logistics experience in moving vehicles and excellent customer service. UPS's Automotive Industry Solutions Group will work on behalf of Manheim's customers including dealerships, auto manufacturers, car rental companies and financial institutions to arrange pick-up and drop-off of vehicles bound for Manheim's 77 operating locations in the United States. UPS will coordinate and dispatch requests from all of Manheim's operating locations, enabling UPS to make the most cost-effective supply chain decisions, such as consolidating multiple shipments from one region into one delivery. UPS also will provide Manheim with consistent transport paperwork, payment terms and processes. Additionally, UPS will provide improved visibility into the automotive supply chain, enabling Manheim to determine inbound vehicle volume at each location and ensure an efficient and smooth vehicle flow upon arrival.

UPS Seeks Acquisitions

United Parcel Service Inc. (UPS) is scouting for acquisition opportunities in order to increase its supply-chain and freight-forwarding units. Chief Executive Officer of the company Scott Davis said that UPS has made more than 40 acquisitions in the past ten year and there are “likely to be some more” in the coming year. He said: “We’re strengthening ourselves in emerging markets, the Middle East, Asia, areas where we think we can invest and grow.” He added that UPS also wants to expand its services for handling health- care products. Chief Financial Officer of the company, Kurt Kuehn said that valuations for acquisition targets have declined as business owners “become more realistic,” UPS has acquired Overnite Corp. for $1.25 billion in 2005 to expand its freight unit. Overnite is a less-than-truckload carrier, hauling goods from more than one customer in the same trailer. Scott Davis said that the company is not for acquisitions in that area. He said: “We’re happy with the network we’ve got.”

United Parcel Service Inc. declared a regular quarterly dividend of $0.45 per share on all outstanding Class A and Class B shares. The dividend is payable on December 3, 2009, to shareholders of record on November 16, 2009.
