Key developments for Xerox Corp. (XRX)

Xerox Announces New Compact Systems Big on Features

Xerox Corp. announced that its Wide Format 6604(R) and 6605(R) Solutions mark the eighth and ninth wide format products the company has unveiled in the last two years. The compact new systems integrate 600 x 600 dpi copying, scanning and printing with an easy-to-use interface to ensure crisp, accurate image quality on jobs such as emergency services maps, electrical wiring diagrams or construction plans. An on-board color scanner allows for hard copy documents to be scanned to electronic files or can copy existing prints of varying sizes, including the most common wide-format size drawings, E and A0 documents. The 6604 and 6605 Solutions can produce up to four and five D or A1 size images per minute, respectively. Users can select a two-roll paper option for greater printing capacity. The 15-inch color touch screen and intuitive user interface make them easy to operate, even for users that don't have familiarity with wide format printers. The printers are equipped with the FreeFlow(R) Accxes(R) Print Server--allowing customers to preview scans and simultaneously print, copy and scan-to-file with select options. Other new features include: Closed loop color calibration which improves the color matching between the scanner and printer to ensure the color accuracy of color copies made. Queue management, which allows greater job control based on the needs of the customer. Addition of a compact Gera Butterfly folder, an in-line device that automates the folding process while the solution prints and scans. The Xerox 6604 and 6605 Solutions will be available worldwide for order and installation in November 2009. An upgrade to a color scanner for current Xerox 6204 Wide Format Solution customers will also be available. The base configuration starts at a U.S. list price of $19,300.

Xerox Corp. Launches Enterprise Print Services

Xerox Corp. announced Enterprise Print Services (EPS), the first offering to help companies better manage documents across their global print infrastructure from the office to the in-house print center to the virtual workplace. Xerox EPS reduces the cost of printing, sharing and updating everything from a home worker's 50-page proposal to full color brochures in a marketing department. Extending Xerox's MPS offering to give companies a complete view of worldwide print operations, EPS ensures all document output meets budget targets, security policies, and environmental sustainability objectives.

Xerox Corp. Develop 'Silver Bullet' Needed to Replace Silicon Circuits with Low-Cost, Durable Plastic

With the development of a new silver ink, Xerox Corp. scientists have paved the way for commercialization and low-cost manufacturing of printable electronics. Printable electronics offers manufacturers a very low-cost way to add 'intelligence' or computing power to a wide range of surfaces such as plastic or fabric. This development will aid the commercialization of new applications such as 'smart' pill boxes that track how much medication a patient has taken or display screens that roll up to fit into a briefcase. Until now, bringing low-cost electronics to the masses has been hindered by the logistics and costs associated with silicon chip manufacturing; the breakthrough low-temperature silver ink overcomes the cost hurdle, printing reliably on a wide range of surfaces such as plastic or fabric. As part of its commercialization initiatives, Xerox plans to aggressively seek interested manufacturers and developers by providing sample materials to allow them to test and evaluate potential applications. Integrated circuits are made up of three components--a semiconductor, a conductor and a dielectric element--and currently are manufactured in costly silicon chip fabricating factories. By creating a breakthrough silver ink to print the conductor, Xerox has developed all three of the materials necessary for printing plastic circuits. Using Xerox's new technology, circuits can be printed just like a continuous feed document without the extensive clean room facilities required in current chip manufacturing. In addition, scientists have improved their previously developed semiconductor ink, increasing its reliability by formulating the ink so that the molecules precisely align themselves in the best configuration to conduct electricity. The printed electronics materials, developed at the Xerox Research Centre of Canada, enable product manufacturers to put electronic circuits on plastics, film, and textiles. Printable circuits could be used in a broad range of products, including low-cost radio frequency identification tags, light and flexible e-readers and signage, sensors, solar cells and novelty applications including wearable electronics.
