It also provides electronic chemical materials, such as enhancement films; SELCION, a raw material for engineering plastics; toners for color laser printers; barium titanate powder, a raw material for multi-layered ceramic capacitors; and tetramethylammonium chloride, a solution for semiconductors and LCDs. In addition, the company offers chlorine and cellulose relative products comprising methaclean, epichlorohydrin, caustic soda, Mecellose, carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, 3-Chloro-2-hydroxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride, hydrochloric acid, methyl chloride, methylene chloride, hypromellose, hypromellose phthalate, and sodium hypochlorite. Samsung Fine Chemicals Co. Ltd. reported earnings results for the fourth quarter and full year ended December 2012. For the year, the company reported sales of KRW 1,431.2 billion against KRW 1,333.6 billion a year ago. Operating profit was KRW 55.6 billion against KRW 74.6 billion a year ago. Income before tax was KRW 86.1 billion against KRW 87.8 billion a year ago. Net income was KRW 73.3 billion against KRW 73.4 billion a year ago. The operating profit decreased due to the relatively lower profitability of the ECM and the decrease in the price of chlorine related products caused by the global economic slowdown. The net income recorded no significant change compared to the last year due to the reduction of other costs. Net debt at December was KRW 88.2 billion. For the quarter, the company reported sales of KRW 340.5 billion against KRW 326.4 billion a year ago. Operating profit was KRW 3.6 billion against KRW 14.5 billion a year ago. Income before tax was KRW 12.2 billion against KRW 9.5 billion a year ago. Net income was KRW 9.8 billion against KRW 6.2 billion a year ago. The operating profit decreased due to a slowdown in sales from the ECM and weak performance from chlorine related products including ECH and Methyl Chloride, which can be attributed to the global economic slowdown and the weak seasonal demand. The net income increased due to the increased gains on disposition of FA (Formic Acid) facilities and the reduction of other costs.
