Hang Seng Bank Limited operates approximately 220 service outlets in Hong Kong; a branch in Shenzhen for foreign currency wholesale business; branches in Macau and Singapore; and representative offices in Taipei. The company, through its subsidiary, Hang Seng Bank (China) Limited, operates a network of 50 outlets in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Fuzhou, Nanjing, Dongguan, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Tianjin, Kunming, Xiamen, Chengdu, Foshan, Zhongshan, Huizhou, Zhuhai, Jiangmen, and Shantou. Hang Seng Bank Limited reported un-audited consolidated earnings results for the half year ended June 30, 2014. For the period, the company reported interest income of HKD 12,774 million compared to HKD 11,459 million, net interest income of HKD 9,671 million compared to HKD 8,969 million, operating profit of HKD 9,496 million compared to HKD 8,934 million, profit before tax of HKD 9,877 million compared to HKD 18,773 million, profit attributable to shareholders of HKD 8,468 million or HKD 4.43 per diluted share compared to HKD 18,468 million or HKD 9.66 per diluted share, net cash used in operating activities of HKD 6,833 million compared to net cash generated from operating activities of HKD 3,607 million and purchase of premises, plant and equipment and intangible assets of HKD 397 million compared to HKD 3,229 million for the last year. Return on average shareholders funds was 15.9% compared with 35.9% in the first half of 2013. Return on average shareholders funds was 16.1% compared with 16.5% in the first half of last year. Return on total assets was 1.5% compared with 3.4% and 1.4% for the first and second halves of 2013, respectively. Return on average total assets was 1.4% for the first half of 2014 in line with the first and second halves of last year.
