Tigerair Partners with China Airlines, SpiceJet and Scoot to Grow Network

Tigerair is planning to accelerate business growth in other key Asian markets such as Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, and India, even as its Singapore and South-east Asian operations continue in the red on low margins and falling passenger yields. The company announced strategic alliances with three airlines - China Airlines, SpiceJet and Scoot - to expand its network and commercial cooperation. The airline said that it plans to form a joint venture with China Airlines to set up Tigerair Taiwan. Under the JV agreement, Tigerair will hold a one-tenth stake in the new carrier, or TWD 200 million (SGD 8.5 million) of the paid-up capital of TWD 2 billion. Although Tigerair Taiwan will operate under the Tigerair brand and will use Tigerair's website as its main sales and distribution platform, it will be independently managed. It remains subject to Taiwanese regulatory approvals. Tigerair also signed a three-year interline agreement with SpiceJet to offer both airlines' customers the benefits of connecting onto each other's flights. Starting from Jan. 1, customers travelling on SpiceJet's domestic network from 14 Indian cities can enjoy seamless connection through Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport onto Tigerair's Singapore-bound flights. The reverse for Tigerair customers from Singapore will come into effect from Jan. 31. The 14 Indian cities are Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Mumbai, Kolkata, Coimbatore, Delhi, Goa, Indore, Mangalore, Madurai, Pune, Rajahmundry, Tirupati, and Visakhapatnam. A third agreement was signed with interline partner Scoot to deepen their collaboration in commercial activities and network coordination. The existing cooperation enables passengers from outside Singapore to buy itineraries covering the services of both airlines, for example Jakarta to Singapore (operated by Tigerair), and onwards from Singapore to Tianjin (operated by Scoot).
