Sprint Unveils Sprint WeGo Mobile Phone

Sprint has announced Sprint WeGo, a mobile phone that reportedly allows parents to give children the safety and communication tools they need when they are away from home, and also supplies the parental controls and tracking services. The device has one front button and two side volume keys that can be used for scrolling on the LCD screen. A portal available online and via mobile application allows parents to locate their child's device on a map, control device features such as contacts, and set up notifications. Customers have the option of Sprint Easy Pay, which allows eligible customers to purchase the Sprint WeGo phone with $0 down and 24 monthly payments of $5. (Sales tax collected at time of purchase where applicable.) Sprint WeGo Service is $9.99 per month (excluding taxes and fees) and includes 1,000 minutes of talk and 1,000 text messages.

Sprint Announces Availability of Android 4.4 KitKat OS Upgrade for LG's G2

Sprint has announced that customers using LG's G2 smartphone will start receiving the Android 4.4, KitKat, operating system upgrade via an over-the-air update. With the Android 4.4, KitKat, upgrade, LG G2 receives a significant speed boost, allowing the device to run applications 17% faster and, with the Chromium engine, Web browsing is quicker, too, based on internal testing. Additionally, the LG G2 will now: play music more efficiently, support a battery-saving location mode, extending battery life so users can surf the web, watch video or read emails longer and support a useful new feature called Google Cloud Printer that makes it easy to print documents via Wi-Fi or a Bluetooth connection.

Sprint Investors Award Class Action Status in Nextel Merger Suit

In 2005, Sprint Corp. merged with fellow mobile phone company Nextel. However, some Sprint investors believe they were misled about the financial impact of the merger, and after a court's ruling, they now have the ability to bring a class action lawsuit. U.S. District Judge Eric Melgren in Kansas City ruled on March 27 that an investor lawsuit against Sprint and former CEO Gary Forsee may proceed with class action status. In the lawsuit, investors claim that Sprint and Forsee misled investors by inflating stock prices following the merger. The suit claims that Sprint encountered financial difficulties directly following the merger, between October 2006 and February 2008. As a result of technological difficulties merging the networks, Sprint lost thousands of customers. However, the suit says, Forsee continued to trumpet the sale and said in both press releases and regulatory filings that Sprint was receiving billions in benefits from the merger. Melgen ruled that the case may proceed as a class action because the plaintiffs are substantially similar, rely upon much of the same evidence, and will require many of the same witnesses.
