Kuraray Co., Ltd. manufactures and sells chemicals, resins, fibers, textiles, high performance materials, medical products, and others in Japan, North America, Europe, and Asia. Its products comprise poval (PVA) resins for paper/fiber processing agents and adhesives; optical-use poval films for LCD televisions and mobile phone screens; water-soluble PVA films for water soluble delivery system and others; PVB films for laminated safety glass and photovoltaic module encapsulation; EVAL resins and films for food packaging, automobile tanks, and insulation panels; methacrylic resins/methacrylic sheets for LCDs, automobile light covers, signboards, and construction material; and isoprene chemicals for pharmaceutical and agrichemical intermediates, as well as ingredients for fragrances and cosmetics. The company’s products also include thermoplastic elastomers as a substitute for rubber, automobile parts, electronic parts, stationary, toys, and sporting goods; heat-resistant polyamide resins for mobile phones, personal computers, digital cameras, LCDs, and LED reflectors application; dental materials for treating cavities; PVA fibers that are used as reinforcing material for cement and concrete; man made leather products; and non-woven fabrics for everyday goods and industrial products. In addition, it offers hook and loop fasteners for clothing, sporting goods, and industrial materials; polyarylate fibers for rope, fishing nets, and other industrial products; polyester filament materials for non-woven fabrics and industrial materials/woven and knitted textiles, tents, and sheets; activated carbon for water purification facilities, gas separators, and capacitor materials; and aqua systems for water purification, waste water treatment, and ballast water management. Further, the company is involved in importing, exporting, and wholesaling fibers and textiles products, such as filament and chemicals. Kuraray Co., Ltd. was founded in 1926 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

Kuraray Co Ltd. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended June 30, 2014. Net sales were JPY 105,197 million against JPY 93,158 million a year ago. Operating income was JPY 13,921 million against JPY 10,412 million a year ago. Ordinary income was JPY 13,237 million against JPY 10,345 million a year ago. Net income was JPY 7,285 million against JPY 6,555 million a year ago. Net income per share diluted was JPY 20.76 against JPY 18.67 million a year ago. Income before income taxes and minority interests in net income was JPY 10,759 million against JPY 10,137 million a year ago. Impairment loss for the quarter was JPY 205 million. For the interim, the company expects net sales will be JPY 220,000 million. Operating income will be JPY 26,000 million. Ordinary income will be JPY 26,000 million. Kuraray Co. Ltd. has decided to expand its production facilities in Indiana, the United States, in response to strong demand for PVA films for industrial applications. Kuraray decided to establish a new factory, including new buildings and production equipment, in order to meet increasing demand, particularly in North America and Europe, for PVA film for various industrial applications.
