Portwell Announces PI-81A0 IoT Gateway Based on Intel Quark SoC X1000 Series

Portwell announced the Portwell PI-81A0 IoT gateway based on the new Intel Quark SoC X1000 series as part of the Intel Gateway Solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT). Portwell brings many years of embedded computing expertise in the industrial automation, network security and medical equipment markets for an extensive variety of Intelligent Gateway applications. In addition to this version of the Intel Quark SoC X1000 series based solutions, Portwell also plans to offer other Intel architecture based Intelligent Gateways, many will be packaged with Wind River Intelligent Device Platform (IDP) and McAfee Security stack. The Portwell PI-81A0 adopts the single-core 32nm Intel Quark SoC X1000. The PI-81A0 IoT gateway is designed with several highly-integrated features, including dual 10/100 Fast Ethernet, one USB 2.0 Host port, one USB 2.0 Device port, and 8-channel analog-to-digital convertor input interface. In addition, it features 512-kilobytes of on-chip flash memory, SRAM and an integrated DDR3 memory controller (support up to 2G@800MTs), and an optional WiFi or Wireless module.

Portwell Announces WEBS-3583, Based on 4th Generation Intel Core Processor

Portwell announced WEBS-3583, a high performance fan-less Box PC. Powered by the 4th generation Intel Core processor (formerly codenamed Haswell) with integrated HD4600 graphics engine, the WEBS-3585 system supports high-resolution triple-display output, serving as an ideal platform for performance and graphics-demanding applications. Portwell's WEBS-3583 is designed to be power-optimized and value-optimized. Instead of adopting a mobile CPU like a traditional embedded system, WEBS-3583 utilizes a 35W Intel desktop CPU and Intel Q87chipset, which is more economical compared to its mobile counterpart and provides great efficacy as well as low power consumption; this makes WEBS-3585 not only competitive but outstanding in the market. The system further takes advantage of the Intel Core processor technologies supporting dual channel DDR3 memory up to 16GB. Furthermore, the WEBS-3583 Box PC includes rich I/O interfaces and fast connectivity with: three independent display (Display Port/HDMI/VGA) interfaces, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, two RS-232/422/485 ports, four RS-232 ports, four USB 2.0 and four USB 3.0 ports, one 8 bits GPIO port, and Mic-in/Line-in/Line-out. An optional wireless or 3G module can be added via a mini PCIe slot. In addition, the embedded board that drives the WEBS-3583 system features an innovative PCI/PCIe expansion module. Via a unique gold finger design, users can easily maintain or replace the PCI/PCIe module. Moreover, thanks to the isolated chamber that accommodates an add-on card separately, the system's thermal design is optimized to further maintain operation stability. Additional thermal solutions, such as a customized heat spreader, can be implemented to realize a truly rugged fan-less system with diversified add-on cards. Portwell's WEBS-3583 has already passed a vibration test of 5Grms/5~500Hz and a shock test of 50G, assuring its solidity and reliability. Portwell, Inc. announced WEBS-5481, a high performance and low power intelligent Box PC. Powered by the 4th generation Intel Core ULT (ultra low TDP) SoC (system on chip) processor (formerly codenamed Haswell), this system is an ideal fan-less controller for applications in digital signage, surveillance, image processing and machine automation industries. The Portwell WEBS-5481 is powerful but not power hungry; it utilizes the dual-core 4th generation Intel Core processor with Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 (selected CPU SKUs), Intel Hyper-Threading Technology and Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology. By adopting Intel's SoC platform, which integrates CPU and PCH into a BGA package, WEBS-5481 is much smaller, sleeker and lighter compared to its previous generation. In addition, the elimination of the 2-chip platform enables a more effective thermal design for the WEBS-5481 intelligent Box PC. Thanks to the highly reliable chassis with a thermally-enhanced ripple fin design, WEBS-5481 can operate reliably in a temperature range from -20ºC to 55ºC. In addition to the built-in triple-display interfaces, two additional display devices are made available by Portwell's graphics modules; thus, it can support up to five display outputs by extended mode in the OS. Product reliability and stability are definitely uncompromised; WEBS-5481 is rated IP40 and certified by industrial product quality tests, such as an anti-vibration test of up to 5Grms and an anti-shock test of 50G. The versatile WEBS-5481 system supports many other important features, including up to 16GB of DDR3L memory, triple display with DV -D, HDMI and DisplayPort, 5.1-CH audio, and dual Intel Gigabit Ethernet ports. It also offers rich compact I/O functions including 2 x SATA, 2 x USB 3.0, 2 x USB 2.0, 1 x 8bits GPIO and 6 x COM ports. To enhance system flexibility, customers can further augment functions per their specific needs via two antenna interfaces and an onboard SIM card holder for WiFi or 3G/GPS module, and two mini PCIe sockets for expansion; one or more PCIe expansion cassettes can be offered by counterparts of WEBS-5481 for hungry demand. Moreover, the WEBS-5481 also comes with a user-friendly design: the optional module can be installed or replaced easily and a wide range of DC power input, 12V to 24V, is accepted so that it can not only prevent the system from damage due to power input change, but also expands the application fields of this Box PC to the automotive industry.
