Hitachi Opens European Nuclear Research Centre

Hitachi Ltd. announced that it will open a new R&D base in the UK - the European Nuclear Research Centre (ENRC) - on September 30, 2014. The Centre will not only coordinate Hitachi's nuclear research activities in Europe formed by a core team, but also provide additional resources to facilitate the development of safe and efficient nuclear power technologies based on advanced plant maintenance technology and proven decommissioning techniques in Europe. Through the ENRC, Hitachi will be conducting joint research with UK and European universities to bring together the leading technologies developed in Europe and Hitachi's BWR (Boiling Water Reactor) technology, to develop even safer and more efficient nuclear power technologies, including technology to reduce the level of radiation exposure to plant personnel, and technology to raise plant utilization. Hitachi will also be undertaking R&D for medium to long-term issues such as reducing the volume of waste and lowering the cost of decommissioning.

Hitachi Ltd. Establishes New Energy Solutions Business Management Division

Hitachi Ltd. announced that as of October 1, 2014, it will establish a new Energy Solutions Business Management Division as a front engineering (technical sales) organization under the direct jurisdiction of the president. This new Division will provide optimum solutions in a one-stop format - from power generation to power distribution and end-user systems - for the power systems market. The Energy Solutions Business Management Division will collaborate with the Power Systems Company and other Hitachi entities to provide the best solutions to a variety of stakeholders, including power companies and new power companies (Power Producers and Suppliers), as well as end-users, leveraging the technologies and expertise cultivated by Hitachi. These solutions will incorporate power receiving/transforming, power transmission/transforming, and related systems; renewable energy; power management services for end-users; and the construction and operation of systems to accommodate the full-scale deregulation of retail sales for electric power. In this way, Hitachi will contribute to the construction of stable electric power systems. While renewing it's commitment to the power companies, the Energy Solutions Business Management Division will be established by integrating the front engineering divisions related to energy solutions, power distribution, and renewable energy businesses, to quickly provide solutions in a one-stop format to a wide range of stakeholders in the electric power market from a market-driven perspective. On the same day, an Energy System Sales Division will also be established within the Power Systems Sales Management Division to collaborate with the Management Division as a contact point for electric power companies and new power companies.

Comptel and Hitachi Enters Reselling Partnership for Comptel Policy Control

Comptel Corporation and Hitachi Ltd. have entered into a Reseller Agreement for Hitachi to resell Comptel Policy Control Solution (PCRF) to Hitachi’s customers worldwide. This strategic partnership with Hitachi enables Comptel to enter the Japanese market and boost its presence in the US. Going forward, Comptel Policy Control Solution will play an important role as a part of Hitachi’s network solutions for Traffic Management and Network Function Virtualisation.
