Shimadzu Corporation Releases HK-5650 Fiber-Coupled Blue Direct Diode Laser

Shimadzu Corporation has expanded its product line of laser products by releasing the HK-5650 fiber-coupled blue direct diode laser and also by starting sales of Oxide brand Frequad series continuous wave 266 nm DUV solid-state lasers. In anticipation of the expected sharp expansion in the global market for materials processing lasers, the company has been focusing efforts on establishing a business supplying lasers with next-generation functionality used for processing materials. As a result, the company developed the HK-5650 10 W output fiber-coupled blue direct diode laser, as a strategic product. The direct diode laser offers the advantages of small size, high electrical-to-optical conversion efficiency, and potentially low costs from mass production. However, increasing the output requires a large light emitting surface, which reduces brightness. Also, due to the infrared light it produces, conventionally its applications have been limited to heating or welding plastics. This product offers 16 times higher brightness than previous models at the short 450 nm wavelength, where absorption by metals is high, and has an especially small spot size. Therefore, it is ideal for applications such as microfabrication of highly reflective and highly thermally conductive materials such as gold and copper, which has been increasing in demand due to the diversification of processed materials and the miniaturization of smart phones and other electronic devices. It is also ideal for 3D printers, which attracted considerable interest in recent years. Furthermore, research is being conducted on using it for next-generation lighting applications, where it is ideally suited laser excitation source for white phosphor. The fiber-coupled design allows transmission flexibility for a high degree of freedom and superior general applicability.

Shimadzu Releases ICPE-9810 and ICPE-9820 ICP Atomic Emission Spectrometers

Shimadzu Corporation has released the ICPE-9810 and ICPE-9820 as part of its ICPE-9800 series of simultaneous ICP atomic emission spectrometers. Featuring user-friendly software, a proprietary design, Eco mode, and enabling high-speed simultaneous analysis of multiple elements, these instruments improve throughput and reduce operating costs. ICP atomic emission spectrometers are used for R&D and quality control in a variety of fields involving soil samples, drinking water, foods, pharmaceuticals, and metallic materials. The ICPE-9800 series consists of the ICPE-9810, which provides axial view plasma observation in a direction coaxial to the plasma, and the ICPE-9820, which in addition to axial view, provides radial view plasma observation in the perpendicular direction. This dual view capability allows measurements to switch automatically between high-sensitivity axial view and high-accuracy radial view, enabling analysis of elements across a broad concentration range with a single method. Optimization of the plasma torch layout and plasma conditions reduces costs and ensures stable analysis. This series features Shimadzu's mini-torch system and Eco mode, which reduces argon gas consumption and power consumption during measurement standby by approximately half in comparison to previous models. Furthermore, performance is ensured even with 99.95% pure argon gas, not the 99.999% or purer gas generally used for ICP systems, which helps to reduce operating costs. In addition, a vertically-oriented torch reduces memory effects and shortens rinse time. The adoption of this torch and vacuum spectrometer enables highly stable, high-throughput analysis. ICPE solution control software features intuitive operation for easy creation and optimization of complicated methods, allowing for a smooth analysis process from the start.

Shimadzu Releases New SCORE Pro Advance Angiography Image Processing Engine

Shimadzu has released a new SCORE PRO Advance image processing engine for cardiovascular systems that offers high image quality at low exposure dose levels. Due to advances in interventional devices in recent years, cardiovascular systems are serving an increasingly important role, not only as a conventional diagnostic imaging system, but also for supporting treatment procedures. At the same time, interventional devices are becoming miniaturized and further advanced procedures are being used for complex lesions. Consequently, the corresponding fluoroscopy exposure time is becoming longer as well, which has led to renewed demand for reducing exposure dose levels. SCORE PRO Advance includes new motion tracking noise reduction algorithms, in addition to multi-frequency processing and edge enhancement cultivated as the real time image quality enhancement features in the previous SCORE PRO engine. This results in lower residual image and noise levels, so that satisfactory image quality can be ensured for interventional procedures even if the frame rate is cut in half (from 15 fps to 7.5 fps). Effectively, this means that exposure dose can be reduced to half the previous levels. To allow supporting advanced treatment procedures, Shimadzu includes this new SCORE PRO Advance engine standard in all Trinias series and BRANSIST alexa series angiography systems.
