Tokyo Electron Limited, together with its subsidiaries, develops, manufactures, and sells semiconductor production equipment (SPE), flat panel display (FPD), and photovoltaic cell (PV) production equipment in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Its semiconductor production equipment includes thermal processing equipment, coater/developers, etch systems, surface preparation systems, single wafer deposition products, test systems, wafer bonding/debonding products, SIC epitaxial CVD systems, gas cluster ion beam systems, and advanced packaging products that are used in wafer processes, as well as wafer prober systems used in testing processes and other semiconductor production equipment. The company’s FPD/PV production equipment product line comprises FPD coaters/developers and plasma etch/ash systems used to manufacture flat panel displays; and photovoltaic panel production equipment. It also designs, develops, procures, and distributes electronic components and computer network equipment, and semiconductor products centering on integrated circuits, other electronic components, computer networks, and software. In addition, the company provides facility management and insurance services, as well as logistics service. Tokyo Electron was founded in 1963 and is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.

Tokyo Electron Limited to Stop Making PV Manufacturing Equipment

Tokyo Electron Limited planned to discontinue its solar manufacturing equipment operations by the end of March 2014. The decision to abandon that business is the result of continued overcapacity within the production equipment segment and the weak business environment. The move will result in the closure of the company's unit TEL Solar AG, former Oerlikon Solar, in Switzerland and the Technology Center Tsukuba in Ibaraki, Japan. The company said it would halt development, manufacturing and sales efforts, while leaving only support operations for panel production machinery that has already delivered.

Tokyo Electron Limited Reports Consolidated Earnings Results for the Nine Months Ended December 31, 2013; Provides Dividend Guidance for the Year End and Annual for the Year Ending March 31, 2014

Tokyo Electron Limited reported consolidated earnings results for the nine months ended December 31, 2013. For the period, the company's net sales were JPY 382,900 million compared to JPY 358,511 million a year ago. Operating income was JPY 7,244 million compared to JPY 5,336 million a year ago. Ordinary income was JPY 9,091 million compared to JPY 8,805 million a year ago. Loss before income taxes was JPY 37,542 million compared to income before income taxes of JPY 9,349 million a year ago. Net loss was JPY 35,621 million or JPY 198.79 per share compared to JPY 936 million or JPY 5.23 per share a year ago. Cash out flow from operating activities was JPY 12,100 million compared to cash inflow from operating activates of JPY 71,632 million a year ago. Payment for purchase of tangible fixed assets was JPY 6,969 million. For the year ending March 31, 2014, the company expected year-end dividend per share to be JPY 25, annual dividend per share to be JPY 50.0.
