State Attorneys General Reaches to Settlement in Antitrust Lawsuits with Apple for E-Book Purchases

A Settlement has been reached with Apple in antitrust lawsuits filed by State Attorneys General and Class Plaintiffs about the prices of electronic books. The lawsuits claim and the Court found there was a conspiracy involving five top U.S. publishers and Apple to fix and raise retail prices of E-books. Settlements were reached with publishers Hachette, HarperCollins, and Simon & Schuster in 2012, and with Macmillan and Penguin in 2013. Apple denies that it did anything wrong and is appealing the Court's decision. Whether consumers receive any money, and how much, will depend on the outcome of that appeal. Apple could pay up to $400 million.

Secure Web Conference Corporation Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against Apple

SWCC has already licensed the encryption patents to Logitech in connection with its LifeSize web conferencing service, and has a patent infringement lawsuit pending against Microsoft Corporation in connection with the SKYPE and Lync web conferencing services. A claims construction, or Markman hearing, in the Microsoft lawsuit is scheduled for September 23, 2014.
