American Electric Power Company, Inc., a public utility holding company, is engaged in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity for sale to retail and wholesale customers. The company generates electricity using coal and lignite, natural gas, nuclear energy, and hydroelectric and other energy sources. It also supplies and markets electric power at wholesale to other electric utility companies, rural electric cooperatives, municipalities, and other market participants. As of January 27, 2014, the company delivered electricity to approximately 5.3 million customers in 11 states comprising Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. It also owned approximately 38,000 megawatts of generating capacity; and an electricity transmission network of 40,000-miles. In addition, the company transports liquid, coal, and dry bulk commodities primarily on the Ohio, Illinois, and lower Mississippi rivers. It owns and leases approximately 2,300 barges, 36 towboats, and 20 harbor boats. American Electric Power Company, Inc. was founded in 1906 and is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio.

For the year, the company has revised guidance upwards since the beginning of the year, and maintaining that guidance now for full year earnings between $3.35 and $3.55 per share. The company is committed to delivering 4% to 6% growth off of 2013 guidance. From 2013, earnings per share of $0.16 per share to an estimated $0.30 per share for 2014 from $1.6 billion in invested capital in 2013 to $2.7 billion estimated by the end of year 2014 to between $3.4 billion and $3.9 billion in 2015, and estimated to between $6.2 billion and $8.2 billion in 2018 with earnings per share growing from estimated $0.30 per share in 2014 to a range of $0.67 to $0.87 per share in 2018.

American Electric Power Co., Inc. Names Andrew B. Reis as Vice President, Audit Services, Effective September 1, 2014

American Electric Power Co., Inc. announced that Andrew B. Reis had been named vice president, Audit Services effective Sept. 1, 2014. Reis, 40, is currently vice president, Commercial & Financial Analysis for AEP. Reis will report directly to Akins and will succeed Rich Mueller, who is retiring from AEP Jan. 1, 2015. Mueller will provide support to Reis and the Audit organization until his retirement. Reis has been vice president, Commercial & Financial Analysis since Jan. 1 with responsibility for the middle and back office functions within AEP's Commercial Operations organization, including structuring, portfolio and margin analysis; RTO and commodity settlements; contract administration; market operations support; risk generation and fuel forecasting and reporting. Previously, Reis was assistant controller at AEP. Reis joined AEP in 2008 as managing director, Financial Policy, Transactions and Analysis. Before joining AEP, Reis spent three years at Mettler Toledo as head of global financial reporting and assistant corporate controller. He also worked for nine years at Deloitte & Touche.

American Electric Power Reports Preliminary Unaudited Earnings Results for the Second Quarter and Six Months Ended June 30, 2014; Re-Affirms Earnings Per Share Guidance for 2014

American Electric Power reported preliminary unaudited earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported earnings (GAAP) of $390 million or $0.80 per share compared to $338 million or $0.69 per share, in second-quarter 2013, an increase of 16% in earnings per share. Operating earnings (GAAP excluding special items) were $390 million or $0.80 per share compared to $357 million or $0.73 per share for the same period last year. Revenue was $4.0 compared to $3.6 billion for the same period last year. For the six months, the company reported earnings (GAAP) of $950 million or $1.95 per share compared to $701 million or $1.44 per share for the same period last year. Operating earnings (GAAP excluding special items) were $950 million or $1.95 per share compared to $744 million or $1.53 per share for the same period last year. Revenue was $8.7 compared to $7.4 billion for the same period last year. The company reaffirmed its operating earnings guidance range for 2014 Of $3.35 to $3.55 per share.
