Aeroméxico and Mexico's Water Commission Strike Real-Time Weather Data Deal

Mexico's water commission (Conagua) and Aeroméxico have teamed up to provide real-time weather information. Aeroméxico will install software and sensors on 26 planes to collect meteorological information during flight. The initiative will provide national weather service (SMN) with data from more altitudes than its current radar-based system currently supplies, SMN coordinator Juan Caballero. The agreement is part of a wider initiative between Conagua and the UN's World Meteorological Organization to improve weather monitoring in Mexico. As a result of the Aeroméxico-Conagua agreement the number of weather readings taken will increase to 168 a day from 26. It will require an investment of MXN 325,000 (USD 24,738) instead of the MXN 113 million that would have been needed to increase data capture to the same level using traditional methods.
