Agilent Technologies Inc. introduced the Truevolt Series digital multimeters. These DMMs offer several advantages over previous models. They help engineers see their measurement data in new ways, get actionable information faster, and document their results more easily. Exclusive Truevolt technology reduces extraneous factors such as noise, injected current and input bias current for increased measurement confidence. The Agilent 34461A DMM is a direct replacement for the industry-standard Agilent 34401A DMM, and was designed to make migration easy for current users of the 34401A. The Agilent 34460A offers engineers a basic entry point to the 61/2 digit class of DMMs. Compared with the 34401A DMM, the new 34461A offers expanded current ranges from 100 uA to 10 A. Both the 34460A and 34461A have a temperature measurement function (RTD/PT100, thermistor) and expanded diode measurement capability to allow engineers to measure a larger full-scale voltage (5 V) so they can test more diode types, such as LEDs. Driverless easy file access USB file transfer provides simple USB connectivity between an Agilent Truevolt DMM and a PC, using the standard USB media transfer protocol. Engineers can drag and drop measurement data, instrument settings and screen images into PC applications without any additional software. The Digital Multimeter Connectivity Utility software lets engineers control, capture and view the Agilent DMMs on their benches. With a single click they can transfer data to a PC via USB, GPIB, LAN or RS-232 (when used with older-generation Agilent DMMs).

Agilent Technologies Inc. announced that the Broad Institute in Cambridge, Mass., has become an early adopter of its new Encore Multispan liquid-handling system. The system unites advanced liquid handling and robotic integration for true sample-to-analysis automation. The Broad Institute will be the first to take advantage of the capabilities of this pioneering instrument to develop automated solutions for a variety of high-throughput genomics workflows.

Agilent Technologies Inc. introduced a new series of HaloPlex next-generation sequencing panels targeting specific disease states. Two catalog products, the HaloPlex Cancer Research Panel and the HaloPlex Cardiomyopathy Research Panel, plus five predesigned research panels for arrhythmia, ICCG genomic regions, X chromosome, Noonan syndrome, and connective tissue disorders are now available. Used in combination with Agilent's SureDesign and SureCall software, the new panels enable laboratories to perform integrated data analysis, mapping and reporting with greater confidence, speed and flexibility. HaloPlex target-enrichment solutions combine the speed and specificity of polymerase chain reaction-based systems with the scalability and capture-size flexibility of solution-based hybridization formats, eliminating the need for library preparation. This streamlined sequence-selective solution for next-generation sequencing helps to remove bottlenecks associated with targeted resequencing and eliminates the need for expensive, dedicated instrumentation or laborious protocols. SureDesign and SureCall software programs are an integral part of Agilent's complete solutions for next-generation sequencing target enrichment. SureDesign increases flexibility by allowing HaloPlex panel users to develop custom panels and incorporate additional predesigned genes/regions of interest to suit their laboratory's individual needs. SureCall significantly reduces the data analysis hurdles faced by researchers, enabling simple and intuitive variant calling.
