Aspen Insurance Holdings Limited, through its subsidiaries, operates in insurance and reinsurance businesses worldwide. The company’s Insurance segment offers property insurance lines comprising the United States (U.S.) and the United Kingdom commercial property and construction business; and casualty insurance line consisting of commercial liability, excess casualty, the U.S. casualty insurance, and environmental liability. It also provides marine, energy and construction liability, energy physical damage, marine hull, specie, inland marine and ocean risks, and aviation insurance products. In addition, this segment offers financial and professional line insurance products that cover financial and corporate risks, professional liability, management risks, credit and political risks, accident and specialty risks, and surety risks, as well as underwrites property and casualty insurance risks for the various U.S. based program managers. Its Reinsurance segment offers property catastrophe reinsurance; other property reinsurance, including risk excess of loss and proportional treaty reinsurance, and facultative or single risk reinsurance; and casualty reinsurance, including the U.S. treaty, international treaty reinsurance, and casualty facultative reinsurance. This segment also provides specialty reinsurance consisting of credit and surety, agriculture reinsurance, and other specialty lines. The company provides its products primarily through brokers and reinsurance intermediaries. Aspen Insurance Holdings Limited was founded in 2002 and is based in Hamilton, Bermuda.

Aspen US Insurance Appoints Jeff Canfield as Senior Vice President

Aspen US Insurance has appointed Jeff Canfield as senior vice president, product line leader of excess casualty. Reporting to Roxanne Mitchell, Executive vice president, Casualty, Jeff will lead Excess Casualty, one of the four product lines within the new US Casualty structure - the other three being Real Estate/Hospitality, Construction and Products Liability. Working closely with management and the full Casualty team, Jeff will lead and execute the Excess Casualty strategy to ensure this is focused on targeted growth of the book across the US Insurance footprint. Prior to joining Aspen, Jeff was responsible for the profitable growth of an excess casualty book at AIG and he has also worked in claims at Amica Insurance.

Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd. Reports Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Second Quarter and Six Months Ended June 30, 2014; Provides Earnings Guidance for 2015 and 2016

Aspen Insurance Holdings Ltd. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported net written premiums of $612.7 million compared to $513.4 million a year ago. Net earned premiums were $616.2 million compared to $544.0 million a year ago. Net investment income was $46.1 million compared to $45.9 million a year ago. Operating income before tax was $107.5 million compared to $54.7 million a year ago. Income before tax was $137.0 million compared to $41.1 million a year ago. Net income after tax was $130.8 million compared to $40.1 million a year ago. Book value per ordinary share was $45.81 against $39.98 a year ago. Annualized net income return on average equity of 16.8% and annualized operating return on average equity of 12.8% for the second quarter of 2014 compared with 4.4% and 6.4%, respectively, for the second quarter of 2013. Diluted net income per share of $1.82 for the quarter ended June 30, 2014, compared with diluted net income per share of $0.36 for the second quarter of 2013. Diluted operating income per share of $1.40 for the quarter ended June 30, 2014, an increase of 122.2% from $0.63 for the second quarter of 2013. Diluted book value per share of $44.84 at June 30, 2014, up 5.0% from March 31, 2014 and up 9.6% from December 31, 2013. For the six months, the company reported net written premiums of $1,383.9 million compared to $1,209.7 million a year ago. Net earned premiums were $1,182.7 million compared to $1,054.9 million a year ago. Net investment income was $95.6 million compared to $94.2 million a year ago. Operating income before tax was $223.3 million compared to $146.8 million a year ago. Income before tax was $261.2 million compared to $138.8 million a year ago. Net income after tax was $251.2 million compared to $131.9 million a year ago. Book value per ordinary share as on June 30, 2014 was $45.81 compared to $39.98 as of June 30, 2013. Annualized net income return on average equity of 16.2% and annualized operating return on average equity of 13.8% for the first half of 2014 compared with 8.0% and 8.6%, respectively, for the first half of 2013. Diluted net income per share of $3.48 for the six months ended June 30, 2014 compared with diluted net income per share of $1.52 for the six months ended June 30, 2013. Diluted operating income per share of $2.94 for the six months ended June 30, 2014 compared with diluted operating income per share of $1.70 for the six months ended June 30, 2013. The company continues to expect to achieve an operating return on equity of 11% in 2015, and to achieve an operating return on equity of between 11% and 12% in 2016, assuming normal loss experience.
