alcatel-lucent-sponsored adr (ALUN) Details

Alcatel-Lucent provides Internet protocol (IP) and cloud networking, and ultra-broadband fixed and wireless access to service providers and their customers, enterprises, and institutions worldwide. The company operates in three segments: Core Networking, Access, and Other. The Core Networking segment offers intelligent IP service routers, switches, and software defined networking platforms to support IP-based applications and services; and terrestrial optical products, which enable carriers to manage voice, data, and video traffic patterns based on various applications or platforms. This segment also develops, manufactures, installs, and maintains undersea telecommunications cable networks; and provides microwave radio products, as well as offers network build and implementation IP, platforms, and platforms professional services. The Access segment offers wireless products and services that enable mobile network operators to offer mobile data capacity; cable, antenna, tower systems, and their related electronic components; and fixed access products, which enable service providers to offer ultra-broadband connectivity over digital subscriber lines and fiber connections. It also provides fixed network build and implementation, multivendor maintenance, and licensing services; and managed services, including build-operate-manage-transfer and operations transformation solutions, and network operations services. The Other segment offers communications and network solutions for businesses of various sizes to deliver collaborative conversations; and networking, satellite communications, voice-over-IP, optical routers, and other solutions for the United States national security, defense, and advanced research communities. The company serves transportation, energy, and public sector customers. Alcatel-Lucent was founded in 1898 and is headquartered in Paris, France.

Alcatel-Lucent Wins Bids for its Ground-Breaking IP Core Router by China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile

China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile have each chosen the 7950 XRS (Extensible Routing System) from Alcatel-Lucent for their IP-based core networking needs in order to meet rapidly accelerating demand for fixed and mobile broadband access in the nation of almost 1.4 billion people. The 7950 XRS core router is the 'traffic cop' that directs data traffic at the heart of an IP network, handling multiple Terabits of data per second. The system, which offers industry-unique benefits in space saving and energy efficiency, provides operators with up to five times the data capacity of other core routers on the market. China is anticipating massive growth of data and video in the coming years for residential and enterprise customers due to increasing demand for high-definition content, on-demand viewing, multi-screen delivery, the widespread use of smart-phones and tablets and the rapid adoption of cloud applications. The first scale commercial deployments of the 7950 XRS in China will enable China Telecom, China Unicom and China Mobile, to address this expected explosion of demand for capacity over the next five years, as well as supporting the operators' contributions to China's national 'Broadband China' strategy. The selection of the 7950 XRS is the result of a recent central bidding process for IP core routers. The deployments will mark the first scale commercial use of the system in China.

CenturyLink Builds Next Generation IP Core Network with Alcatel-Lucent

CenturyLink Inc. and Alcatel-Lucent announced that CenturyLink has deployed the 7950 Extensible Routing System (XRS) to meet the growing data and video demands from its customer base across the United States. With the introduction of the 7950 XRS core router in its IP core network, CenturyLink obtains an end-to-end managed IP/MPLS network. The 7950 XRS provides CenturyLink with increased speed and capacity, allowing the company to scale its network and provide services to its customers that support their growing broadband needs, including 1 gigabit service which was recently made available to residential and business customers in 16 cities. CenturyLink's IP network also has a direct connection into its 57 worldwide data centers and provides customers with voice and data solutions, managed IT services, colocation, managed hosting and private and public cloud offerings. Core routers direct data traffic at the heart of an IP network, and a single 7950 XRS can forward 16 terabits of data per second while consuming only 1 watt per gigabit switching capacity today, and is expected to consume even less in the future. The switching capacity, port density and power efficiency of the 7950 XRS platforms yield operational cost savings by minimizing requirements for physical footprint and power consumption.

Alcatel-Lucent Is Launches the TWDM-PON (Time and Wavelength Division Multiplexed Passive Optical Networks) Solution

Alcatel-Lucent is launching the TWDM-PON (Time and Wavelength Division Multiplexed Passive Optical Networks) solution. This new fixed ultra-broadband access technology will allow operators to smoothly increase the capacity of existing fiber networks and meet all customers' growing data demands. Alcatel-Lucent and Vodafone have been engaged in co-development of TWDM-PON since 2010 to test potential deployment scenarios for the technology. During this time the companies have contributed to its standardization and completed a successful trial. TWDM-PON technology has been selected as the successor to current GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Networks) technologies. TWDM-PON uses four wavelengths per fiber, giving a total capacity of 40 gigabits-per-second (Gbps), and can support new operational and business uses that create a much faster and higher return on investment for operators than previous generations of PON technology. TWDM-PON enables an operator to deliver different services over each wavelength. Each fiber can be flexibly configured to enable customer services ranging from a few megabits-per-second up to 10 gigabits-per-second. As TWDM-PON can co-exist with current PON technology, it provides a clear and cost-effective way for operators to evolve their existing fiber access networks. The technology also enables a 'pay as you grow' model, allowing operators to easily and cost effectively increase bandwidth as required. Wavelength multiplexing means different operators can easily share the same infrastructure. This can facilitate competition. TWDM-PON technology is supported by the cornerstone of Alcatel-Lucent's fixed ultra-broadband portfolio, the 7360 Intelligent Services Access Manager FX solution, ensuring smooth network evolution. Alcatel-Lucent is introducing a new 4-port TWDM-PON line card and optical network unit supporting 10Gbps symmetrical bitrate. Products will be available in the first quarter of 2015.
