AMG Advanced Metallurgical Group N.V. Titanium Aluminides Lift Off on the Airbus A320neo First Flight

AMG Advanced Metallurgical Group N.V. announced that the new A320neo powered by Pratt & Whitney's highly advanced PurePower(R) PW1100G-JM engines with AMG Titanium Alloys and Coatings titanium aluminides, successfully completed its maiden flight. The successful flight was made possible in part by the innovative TiAl material technology developed by AMG TAC metallurgists and engineers. TiAl combines the heat resistance aspects of nickel alloys with the lightweight characteristics of titanium. AMG's TiAl materials are used to produce low-pressure turbine blades for the PurePower(R) PW1100G-JM engine. This TiAl technology helps set the engine apart from conventional turbofans, including a 50% reduction in noise and a 15% cut in fuel consumption and emissions. Certification, ramp-up of production and delivery of the first engines will occur over the next few years.
