Located at 7 West 34th St., directly across from the Empire State Building and just a block from Macy's location, Amazon's newly-rented building will primarily serve as a merchandise pickup window for online customers and a warehouse for the retailer's same-day bicycle fleet servicing Amazon Prime Now customers.

Amazon Christmas Business in Germany Hit by Strike

Amazon Christmas business in Germany hit by strike Berlin German workers employed launched a strike on December 8, 2014, over a long-running dispute over a wage agreement, which was aimed at the company's key pre-Christmas business. The service sector union said their members walked off the job at Amazon's Bad Hersfeld operations in western Germany at midnight (0100 GMT) and were not expected to return to work as part of their campaign for the company to introduce collective bargaining into its German operations. The union also declined to rule out the strike extending into December 9, 2014 or other Amazon dispatch centres joining the industrial action. The company currently employs a total of about 9,000 people at nine locations across Germany. The union has launched a series of strikes over more than a year to try to force Amazon to agree to a collective wage agreement that would recognize its German employees as retail warehouse workers. Instead, Amazon insists that its dispatch sites in Germany are logistics centres, where lower hourly rates prevail under the nation's law.
