Schenker AG Claims Damages from Air France, KLM, Martinair, Cargolux, Qantas, SAS and All Nippon Airways

Schenker AG has filed a complaint in New York federal court claiming damages from Air France, KLM, Martinair, Cargolux, Qantas, SAS and All Nippon Airways. Schenker AG alleges that the defendants illegally conspired to fix fuel and security surcharges for airfreight shipments from, to and within the United States beginning in 1999 until at least 2006. The exact amount of the damages suffered by Schenker AG and its affiliated companies has not yet been determined. In the proceedings initiated by the US Department of Justice, all the defendants named in the Schenker AG complaint entered into guilty pleas and accepted significant penalties. Also in the United States, a number of air cargo carriers have entered into settlement agreements both with class action plaintiffs and individual claimants in order to avoid protracted civil lawsuits. Schenker AG opted out of the settlement agreements entered into by the named defendants in connection with the class action lawsuit.

ANA Upgrades Flight Schedule

ANA is upgrading its flight schedule for the second half of fiscal 2014, in order to capture the increasing demand for Asian air travel and capitalize on the expansion of Haneda Airport. ANA has significantly expanded its international network at Haneda Airport this spring and improved its connectivity as a hub airport, both for domestic and international flights. ANA has also expanded its network at Narita Airport, in order to respond to the increasing demand for connections between Asia and North America, and the flight schedule for Narita Airport is updated accordingly. ANA is also making changes to increase capacity on its cargo network. ANA now provides a more convenient service for passengers, making it easier for customers to travel through Japan and connect with ANA's extensive domestic and international network. In response to significant demand for flights to Japan, ANA is introducing new aircraft to routes between Asia and China, such as Tokyo (Haneda)- Taipei (Song Shan), Tokyo (Haneda)- Seoul (Gimpo) and Tokyo (Narita) - Shanghai. Whilst ANA is currently operating the 787-9 on domestic routes only, two more planes are scheduled for delivery before the end of fiscal 2014 and are planned to be introduced on international routes in spring 2015. In order to maintain the most efficient supply/demand balance, ANA is reducing the number of flights it operates between Narita and Chengdu from October 26, 2014. ANA is increasing the capacity of its air cargo flights in order to meet additional demand. It will introduce its tenth freighter into service and has reviewed its service routes in order to best address demand. A full freighter service will be introduced between Haneda and Okinawa, and direct flights will come into operation between Tianjin and Dalian. ANA is also increasing the number of flights on the Kansai-Okinawa route to two flights daily to expand the network for the Okinawa cargo hub.

All Nippon Airways Launches Three Scheduled Domestic Services with Boeing 787-9

All Nippon Airways has launched scheduled services to three domestic Japanese destinations using the new stretched version of the Boeing Dreamliner, the 787-9. The plane, in 395-seat configuration, will be introduced progressively on routes between Tokyo's Haneda Airport and Fukuoka, Osaka (Itami) and Matsuyama as ANA becomes the first airline in the world to operate the scheduled flight of 787-9. In addition to the first 787-9 going into service in August, ANA is scheduled to take delivery of a further two aircraft in the fiscal year ending March 2015. For the launch of international services, ANA has opted for the 215-seat version of the long-range aircraft - 46 seats more than the existing Boeing 787-8 currently used on international long-haul routes. The 787-9 is engineered for greater fuel economy than 787-8, while also ensuring approximately 20% more seating and cargo capacity and will help ANA achieve expansion into new markets. ANA will focus on utilizing the 395-seat version of the 787-9 on major domestic routes to maximize passenger numbers, while also lowering operational costs. On ANA's international network, the plan is to utilize the 787-9 to increase capacity on some long-haul routes to Europe, North America and other key destinations which are at present served by the smaller 787-8 or to replace larger aircraft currently operating the routes.
