Analog Devices, Inc. Releases Synchronized RF Transceiver Rapid Prototyping Kit for SDR

Analog Devices, Inc. announced that it has released software-defined radio (SDR) rapid prototyping kit with dual 2 x 2 AD9361 RF transceivers to simplify and rapidly prototype 4 x 4 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless transceiver applications on the Xilinx(R) Zynq(R)-7000 All Programmable SoC development platforms. The AD-FMCOMMS5-EBZ rapid prototyping kit provides a hardware/software ecosystem solution addressing the challenges of SDR transceiver synchronization experienced by RF and analog designers when implementing systems using MIMO architectures. The AD-FMCOMMS5-EBZ rapid prototyping kit includes: an FPGA mezzanine card (FMC) featuring two of Analog Devices' AD9361 2 x 2 RF Transceivers and support circuitry, reference designs, design and simulation tools for MathWorks, HDL (hardware description language) code, device drivers for Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoCs and online support at ADI's EngineerZone for rapid prototyping to reduce development time and risk. The AD9361 operates over a frequency range of 70 MHz to 6 GHz. It is a complete radio design that combines multiple functions, including an RF front end, mixed-signal baseband section, frequency synthesizers, two analog-to-digital converters and two direct conversion receivers in a single chip. The AD9361 supports channel bandwidth from less than 200 kHz to 56 MHz, and is highly programmable, offering the widest dynamic range available in the market with noise figure and linearity. Design and Simulation Tools for ADI RF Transceivers: SimRF by MathWorks provides a simulation engine for designing RF systems and includes models of the AD9361 and AD9364 for a seamless transition from software simulation to hardware in the loop. In addition, the FIR Filter Design MATLAB(R) application can be used to select and design digital filters for the AD9361 with minimum trial and error, create custom filters, and examine filter performance. The output can be exported into a SimRF model or hardware. ADI offers a comprehensive suite of RF design tools including ADIsimRF(TM), ADIsimPLL(TM), and ADIsimCLK(TM). AD-FMCOMMS5-EBZ is available at $1,125 per unit.

Analog Devices, Inc. Introduce Current-To-Digital Converter Module

Analog Devices, Inc. introduced a current-to-digital converter module that reduces the cost and complexity of computed tomography (CT) scanner system design. The ADAS1131 is a 256-channel, 24-bit current-to-digital converter module that is available in a 15-mm(2) BGA package with a 0.8-mm pitch. The device uses approximately 33% less PCB area than alternative devices that offer only half the channel density. The 0.8-mm pitch packaging feature enables designers to mount the ADAS1131 on a standard PCB substrate, a less costly and higher yield option than high density, specialized PCB substrates requiring laser vias. In addition to embedding 256 low-power, low-noise, low-input-current integrators, simultaneous sample-and-hold circuitry, and two high-speed A/D converters with configurable sampling rates, the ADAS1131 module incorporates all associated internal buffers, decoupling and by-pass capacitors for data acquisition, further reducing component count and simplifying board layout. The new converter consumes 3 mW of power per channel at any throughput, which is the same as competing devices that integrate only 128 channels. It will be costing $1.19/ch.

Analog Devices, Inc. has launched ADIsimPE simulator for linear and mixed signal applications capable of virtual prototyping for customers with limited resources. The web-based ADIsimPower Design Center offers designers a complete, virtual evaluation ecosystem from customer requirements to solution based on a simple and quick 3-step design process aimed at reducing customer risk and dramatically improving time-to-market. The 3-step design process include: select the optimum solution based on efficiency, cost, area and component count; design and optimise using ADIsimPower downloadable tools; and simulate and verify using ADIsimPE. The ADIsimPE simulator includes a library of validated Analog Devices IC models and proven application schematics which can be edited to meet user requirements.
