Smith Corporation manufactures and sells water heaters and boilers to the residential and commercial end markets primarily in the United States, Canada, China, Europe, India, and the Middle East. It operates in two segments, North America and Rest of World. The company offers a line of electric, natural gas, liquid propane, solar tank, gas tankless, and electric water heaters for applications in residences, restaurants, hotels and motels, laundries, car washes, and small businesses; and residential and commercial boilers primarily for space heating applications in hospitals, schools, hotels, and other large commercial buildings. It also provides boilers and expansion tanks, commercial solar water heating systems, swimming pool and spa heaters, and related products and parts. The company sells its products through independent wholesale plumbing distributors, hardware and home center chains, and manufacturer representative firms. It sells water heaters to approximately 5,900 retail outlets, as well as water treatment products to 2,900 retail outlets in China. The company is headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

A. O. Smith Corporation Reports Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for the Second Quarter and Six Months Ended June 30, 2014; Provides Earnings Guidance for the Year 2014; Reaffirms Earnings Guidance for the Year 2015

A. O. Smith Corporation reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2014. For the quarter, the company's net sales were $595.4 million compared to $549.1 million a year ago. Net earnings were $57.3 million or $0.63 per diluted share compared to $42.1 million or $0.45 per diluted share a year ago. The company reported a 25% increase in second quarter 2014 adjusted earnings of $60.3 million or $0.66 per share compared with second quarter 2013 adjusted earnings of $48.2 million or $0.52 per share. Adjusted operating earnings increased nearly 7% to $67.1 million from $62.8 million last year. Increased operating profit from higher U. S. water heater and boiler sales were partially offset by higher material costs, most notably steel. Earnings before provision for income taxes were $78.6 million against $61.3 million a year ago. For the six months, the company's net sales were $1,147.6 million compared to $1,058.7 million a year ago. Net earnings were $104.0 million or $1.14 per diluted share compared to $81.1 million or $0.87 per diluted share a year ago. Cash flow from operations was $89.8 million. Earnings before provision for income taxes were $143.5 million against $118.4 million a year ago. For the year 2014, the company expected to achieve full-year GAAP earnings of between $2.20 and $2.26 per share, and achieve full-year adjusted earnings of between $2.34 and $2.40 per share. Operating cash flow to be in the range of $240 million and $250 million. The company upgraded its 2015 earnings outlook to $2.60 per share, which represents a 10% increase over the mid-point of its adjusted 2014 EPS guidance.
