Asian Paints Limited manufactures and sells decorative coatings and industrial coatings in India and rest of Asia, the Middle East, the Caribbean, and the South Pacific Islands. It offers decorative paints, including a range of emulsion paints for exterior walls; distempers for interior walls; emulsions, which are water based paints; textures; varnishes; enamels for masonry, wooden, and metal surfaces; and wood finishes. The company also offers industrial coatings comprising protective coatings, floor coatings, powder coatings, and road markings, as well as phthalic anhydride, which is primarily used in the manufacture of alkyd resins, polyester resins, plasticizers, dyestuffs, laminating adhesives, rubber chemicals, and other chemicals; and paints for passenger cars, multi-utility vehicles, two-wheelers, three-wheelers, tractors, and commercial vehicles. In addition, it offers ancillaries, such as primers for painting water based wall finishes and masonry topcoats; wood primers and exterior wall primers; and acrylic water based and exterior wall putties. Further, the company markets intumescent coatings; offers tinting systems on an operating lease basis to dealers; and provides home painting services. It offers its products primarily under the Asian Paints, Berger, SCIB Paints, Apco Coatings, and Taubmans brand names. The company, formerly known as The Asian Oil & Paint Company, was founded in 1942 and is headquartered in Mumbai, India.
