Apollo Tyres Plans to Invest About USD 340 Million to Upgrade Its Manufacturing Facilities in Chennai and Kalamassery

Apollo Tyres is planning to invest about USD 340 million to upgrade its manufacturing facilities in Chennai and Kalamassery (India). The company's board of directors on July 3, 2014 approved its expansion plans, which aims to raise daily production capacity of truck and bus radial tyres manufactured at its Chennai plant from 6,000 units to about 8,900 tyres, while it is seeking to convert the production line at its Kalamassery plant which currently produces 30 tonnes of bias truck tyres to about 110 tonnes of speciality industrial tyres. To aid its capital expenditure plans, the tyre-maker has received approval from its share-holders to raise USD 200 million by way of qualified institutional placement (QIP), rights issue and other capital-raising methods. It is also planning to fund the remaining amount by increasing the limit of investments from foreign institutional investor from 40% to 45% in the equity share capital of the company.
