AVX Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, manufactures and supplies various passive electronic components, interconnect devices, and related products for use in electronic devices to store, filter, or regulate electric energy. The company operates through three segments: Passive Components, Kyocera Electronic Devices (KED Resale), and Interconnect. The Passive Components segment offers surface mount and leaded ceramic capacitors, RF thick and thin film components, surface mount and leaded tantalum capacitors, surface mount and leaded film capacitors, ceramic and film power capacitors, super capacitors, bolt in and surface mount EMI filters, thick and thin film packages of multiple passive integrated components, varistors, thermistors, inductors, and resistive products. The KED Resale segment distributes and sells ceramic capacitors, frequency control devices, SAW devices, sensor products, RF modules, actuators, acoustic devices, and connectors produced by Kyocera. The Interconnect segment is involved in manufacturing and reselling electronic connectors and interconnect systems for use in various industries. The company markets its products through its direct sales force and independent manufacturers’ representatives to multi-national original equipment manufacturers, independent electronic component distributors, and electronic manufacturing service providers. It serves various industries, such as telecommunications, information technology hardware, automotive electronics, medical devices and instrumentation, industrial instrumentation, transportation, energy harvesting, defense and aerospace electronic systems, and consumer electronics industries worldwide. The company was founded in 1972 and is headquartered in Fountain Inn, South Carolina. AVX Corporation is a subsidiary of Kyocera Corporation.

AVX Corporation Releases Fused Undertab High CV Tantalum SMD Chip Capacitors

AVX Corporation has released a new series of fused high CV tantalum SMD chip capacitors with undertab terminations. The new F98-AS1 Series capacitors feature a proprietary lead-frame-less structure with precise dimensions and low stress packaging, an internal thin film fuse that protects against short circuits, and well-established undertab termination technology, which enables high volumetric efficiency and high PCB assembly density. Currently available in a 0805 (2012 metric) S case with four ratings (22µF/10V, 33µF/10V, 10µF/16V, and 1µF/35V) and a 0.9mm maximum height, the F98-AS1 Series is the smallest and thinnest SMD fused tantalum product currently available on the market. As such, the series is ideal for use in a wide variety of applications in which safety and size are a primary concern, including: automotive, commercial, industrial, and medical applications, and the input/output lines of small power supply circuits, portable gaming devices, and smartphones. F98-AS1 Series capacitors are rated at 85°C and designed for use in temperatures spanning -55°C to +125°C. The series is also lead-free compatible and RoHS compliant. Series extensions currently in development include a 0805 (2012 metric) case 47µF/10V capacitor and 10 capacitors packaged in 0603 (1608 metric) M cases: a 1µF/25V component, a 1µF/20V component, 10V components rated for 2.2µF, 4.7µF, 10µF, 22µF, and 33µF, and 16V components rated for 1µF, 2.2µF, and 4.7µF.

AVX Corporation Introduces Medium Power Film Capacitors Ideal for AC Filtering in Power Conversion Applications

AVX Corporation has introduced the new FLA Series medium power film capacitors. Comprised of metallized polypropylene dielectric imbued with a soft polyurethane resin and encased in a cylindrical aluminum can with fast-on or screw terminals, FLA Series capacitors exhibit high ripple current and extremely high dielectric strength in operating temperatures spanning -40degC to +80degC. Specifically designed for AC filtering in power converters, UPS systems, solar and wind inverters, and motor drives, the new FLA Series capacitors exhibit high-reliability, single-phase performance, as well as feature self-healing technology and an internal overpressure disconnector device. Available in nine case sizes spanning A-- I, eight voltages spanning 250--690VAC, capacitance values spanning 10uF to 600uF, and two capacitance tolerances, FLA Series medium power film capacitors are optimized for AC voltage performance and exhibit high overvoltage capabilities as a result of their self-healing properties. Additionally, unlike aluminum electrolytic capacitors, FLA Series polypropylene capacitors do not have a catastrophic failure mode, as film capacitors simply experience a parametric loss of capacitance of approximately 5%, which both negates the risk of short-circuiting and enables continued functionality. Lifetime for the RoHS-compliant series is 100,000 hours at rated voltage and 70degC. Lead time for the series is approximately eight weeks.

AVX Introduces CV Polymer Tantalum Capacitors

AVX Corporation has extended its F38 Series with the addition of the CV polymer tantalum capacitors available in the industry. Packaged in a miniature 0603 (1608 metric) M case with an ultra low 0.9mm maximum profile, the new 6.3V, 47F F38 Series capacitors nearly halve the footprint of the next smallest polymer tantalum capacitor with equivalent CV -- a 0805 (2012 metric) case with a 1.0mm profile. F38 Series capacitors are made from conductive polymer tantalum materials and exhibit high conductivity, low ESR, low ESL, high ripple current capabilities. Featuring face down terminals, which help enable low ESL and higher capacitance values in smaller case sizes, F38 Series capacitors are also robust against ignition, making them a safer alternative to comparable MnO2 type capacitors. Lead-free compatible, RoHS-compliant, and rated for use in operating temperatures spanning -55degC to +105degC, F38 Series capacitors are ideal for use in the power supply circuits of a wide variety of small electronics applications, such as the battery or power lines of smartphones, tablet PCs, handheld gaming systems, wireless modules, and hearing aids.
