It also provides lighting controls, such as occupancy sensors, photocontrols, relay panels, architectural dimming panels, theatrical, and integrated lighting controls systems; and components, such as wiring, LED drivers, glass, and inverters. In addition, the company is involved in monitoring and controlling lighting systems through network technologies, as well as commissioning control systems. The company markets its lighting solutions under the Lithonia Lighting, Holophane, Peerless, Mark Architectural Lighting, Hydrel, American Electric Lighting, Gotham, Carandini, RELOC, Antique Street Lamps, Tersen, Winona Lighting, Synergy Lighting Controls, Sensor Switch, Lighting Control & Design, Dark to Light, ROAM, Sunoptics, Axion Controls, acculamp, Pathway Connectivity, Healthcare Lighting, and eldoLED brand names. Acuity Brands, Inc. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended May 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported net sales of $603.9 million against $541.5 million a year ago. Operating profit was $72.6 million against $50.0 million a year ago. Income before provision for income taxes was $64.6 million against $45.2 million a year ago. Net income was $43.8 million or $1.01 basic and diluted per share against $31.7 million or $0.73 diluted per share a year ago. On non-GAAP basis, adjusted operating profit was $71.8 million against $66.1 million a year ago. Adjusted net income was $43.3 million or $1.00 diluted per share against $41.9 million or $0.97 diluted per share a year ago. The 11.5% year-over-year growth in fiscal 2014 third quarter Net Sales were due primarily to a 13% increase in sales volume, which was partially offset by an approximate 1% negative impact from changes in the price and mix of products sold and half of a percentage point from unfavorable changes in foreign currency rates. The increase in sales volume was broad-based across most product categories and key sales channels in North America. For the nine months, the company reported net sales of $1,724.8 million against $1,509.3 million a year ago. Operating profit was $208.4 million against $143.3 million a year ago. Income before provision for income taxes was $183.7 million against $122.8 million a year ago. Net income was $121.0 million or $2.79 diluted per share against $82.5 million or $1.91 diluted per share a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $128.8 million against $67.8 million a year ago. Purchases of property, plant, and equipment were $24.8 million against $31.4 million a yea ago. On non-GAAP basis, adjusted operating profit was $202.4 million against $168.0 million a year ago. Adjusted net income was $117.3 million or $2.71 diluted per share against $98.0 million or $2.27 diluted per share a year ago.
