Barnes Group Inc. operates as an aerospace and industrial manufacturing and service provider serving a range of end markets and customers worldwide. The company operates in three segments: Aerospace, Industrial, and Distribution. The Aerospace segment produces precision-machined and fabricated components and assemblies for original equipment manufacturer turbine engine, airframe, and industrial gas turbine builders, as well as for the military. It also offers jet engine component overhaul and repair services for turbine engine manufacturers, commercial airlines, and the military. In addition, this segment manufactures aerospace aftermarket spare parts, as well as provides repair services for aircraft engine components. The Industrial segment supplies manufactured precision components for applications serving various end markets, such as transportation, energy, electronics, medical, and consumer products. It also produces various types of precision spring ranging from fine hairsprings for electronics and instruments to heavy-duty springs for machinery, as well as precision-machined and fabricated components. In addition, this segment manufactures and supplies precision mechanical products, including mechanical springs, compressor reed valves, and nitrogen gas products. Further, it manufactures high-precision punched and fine-blanked components used in the transportation and industrial applications; nitrogen gas springs and manifold systems used to precisely control stamping presses; and retention rings that position parts on a shaft or other axis, as well as hot runner systems and components. The Distribution segment offers logistics support through vendor managed inventory and technical sales for maintenance, repair, operating, and production supplies, as well as engages in the design, assembly, and distribution of engineered supplies for the industrial base. Barnes Group Inc. was founded in 1857 and is headquartered in Bristol, Connecticut.

On May 3, 2013, George T. Carpenter retired from his position as a director of Barnes Group Inc. Also on May 3, 2013, in accordance with his previously announced retirement, Gregory F. Milzcik retired from his position as Executive Vice Chairman of the Company and as a director of the Company, and the Board of Directors elected Patrick J. Dempsey, the Company's President and Chief Executive Officer, as a director to fill the vacancy resulting from Mr. Milzcik's resignation. Mr. Dempsey's term will end on the date of the 2014 Annual Meeting of Stockholders. The Board appointed Mr. Dempsey to the Executive Committee of the Board as an ex officio, non-voting member. Mr. Dempsey, 48, has served in his current role since March 1, 2013. Prior to that, since February 2012, Mr. Dempsey was the Company's Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Mr. Dempsey held a series of roles of increasing responsibility since joining the Company in October 2000.
