BAE Systems to Provide U.S. Army Troops with Aircraft Survivability Equipment

The U.S. Army has awarded BAE Systems a series of contracts, worth approximately $40 million, for the third-generation configuration of its Common Missile Warning System, which provides an enhanced capability for aircrews to locate and protect against infrared guided threats. The Gen3 configuration includes hostile fire indication to detect and evade small arms fire and new data recording capabilities for detailed post-mission analysis. BAE Systems' Gen3 Common Missile Warning System provides an enhanced capability for aircrews to locate and protect against infrared guided threats. The latest orders are funded under a recently awarded $496 million, three-year indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (IDIQ) contract to deliver up to 1,300 Gen3 systems. The U.S. Army has now placed approximately $90 million in orders against the IDIQ since the first order in September 2013. Under the contract, BAE Systems will deliver CMWS hardware and provide systems engineering, software, and logistics support services for both the CMWS and the Advanced Threat Infrared Countermeasure system.

BAE Systems Unveils Digital Striker II Helmet-Mounted Display System

BAE Systems unveiled its Striker(R) II Helmet-Mounted Display (HMD), a fully digital solution that provides today's combat pilot with exceptional night vision and target tracking technology, integrated within a visor-projected system. With decades of combat-proven experience, the new platform-agnostic Striker II HMD builds upon BAE Systems' current Striker HMD, which has been successfully deployed on Eurofighter Typhoon and Gripen fleets. BAE Systems' Striker II helmet integrates exceptional night vision and tracking technology into a fully digital, visor-projected system. Delivering breakthrough abilities for night combat, the Striker II brings its high performance digital night vision camera inside the helmet, which helps reduce g-force effects on the pilot's head and neck to improve comfort, and eliminates the need to manually configure and adjust night vision goggle (NVG) hardware for day-to-night transitions. With its binocular visor-projected display performance, the new system integrates a center-mounted ISIE(TM) -11 sensor based on Intevac Photonics' patented advanced imaging sensor technology, known as the electron bombarded active pixel sensor (EBAPS(TM)). This advanced sensor strengthens the display's night vision acuity - bringing the system's night vision performance to a level equal to or better than HMDs using current NVGs. The new configuration also significantly reduces weight, when compared to HMD/NVG solutions. This next-generation HMD also includes a cutting-edge tracking system that ensures the pilot's exact head position and the aircraft computer system are continuously in sync, reducing problems common to other HMDs. The Striker II tracking system, with new hybrid opto-inertial technology, eliminates any delay in determining where the pilot is looking and can therefore perfectly position symbology onto the visor. The results are high-precision target tracking and engagement as well as superior situational awareness and mission effectiveness.

The Boeing Company Selects BAE Systems-Led Team to Provide Electronics for the 777X Flight Control System

The Boeing Company has selected a BAE Systems-led team to provide electronics for the 777X flight control system through a competitive procurement process. The system, known as the Integrated Flight Control Electronics and the Air Data Reference Function, will control the flight surfaces of the aircraft and integrate additional functionality unique to the 777X. BAE Systems is teaming with Rockwell Collins to bring this world class capability to Boeing. BAE Systems and Rockwell Collins are also suppliers of the primary flight control electronics and Autoland systems for the current 777 platform. The 777X is Boeing's newest family of twin-aisle airplanes that builds on the passenger-preferred and market-leading 777. The large and most-efficient twin-engine jet in the world, with 12% lower fuel consumption and 10% lower operating costs than the competition, 777X is scheduled to begin production in 2017 and first delivery is targeted for 2020. BAE Systems' flight control electronics will manage the aircraft's all new wing with load alleviation, as well as its advanced high lift and folding wingtips.
