Brookfield Asset Management Inc. (TSX:BAM.A) intends to grow the portfolio of EZW Gazeley Ltd. through acquisitions, said David Brush, the Managing Partner of Brookfield Asset Management. Brush said that additional resources would be deployed if necessary to support the growth of EZW Gazeley.

Brookfield Asset Management Inc. (TSX:BAM.A) is looking to sell five hotels from its Thakral Hotels Group portfolio. The ex-Thakral hotels portfolio includes the Sofitel in Brisbane and Gold Coast, the Menzies, Novotel Brighton and Wollongong in New South Wales. Kurt Wilkinson, Brookfield's Chief Operating Officer, Australian commercial operation, has indicated that the properties are attracting strong interest from local and international companies. The portfolio will be offered in one line enabling an offshore group to pick up an entire platform, but could also be split up to maximize sale values. HSBC Bank plc has been retained as financial advisor and Jones Lang LaSalle Incorporated as the real estate agent for the property.

Brookfield Asset Management Inc. announced that Keith Smith has joined the company as senior vice president, Private Funds Group. He will be based in Toronto and be responsible for coverage of Brookfield's Canadian institutional investor clients. Mr. Smith joins Brookfield from General Electric, where he was President of GE Asset Management Canada and responsible for a multi-strategy platform with more than $5 billion of assets under management. Under Mr. Smith's leadership, GE Asset Management consistently ranked as a leading institutional asset manager in Canada. At Brookfield, Mr. Smith will assume client coverage from Brookfield senior vice president Eric Bonnor, who is moving to Brazil to manage investor relations and fundraising in Brookfield's Brazilian investments.
