BMW Expands 2-Series and 2-Series Active Tourer Range

BMW has announced improvements to the 2-Series range and new range variants for the 2-Series Active Tourer range. The version of the 2-Series, the 220d, has been fitted with the latest version of the company's 2.0-litre turbodiesel powertrain which has brought improvements in power of 5kW to 140kW and of 20Nm of torque to 400Nm. This gives the 220d an impressive combination of performance and efficiency. If fitted with the optional ZF eight-speed steptronic transmission, the 220d now accelerated to 100 km/h in just 7 seconds while using 3.8 litres of fuel per 100 km and emitting just 99 g/km CO2 in base specification. In addition BMW has also announced a number of new 2-Series Active Tourer variants, with two further diesel powertrains with three and four cylinders respectively as well as an additional four-cylinder gasoline (petrol) variant, with the four-wheel drive xDrive variants also being added. The new 220i Active Tourer boasts a four-cylinder gasoline engine which develops 192 bhp, with this model using 5.9 litres of fuel per 100km with the automatic gearbox option. The 220d Active Tourer also the latest 2.0 litre four-cylinder diesel unit which is also used in the 220d. In the Active tourer this delivers 190 bhp and allows fuel consumption of 4.4 litres per 100km with the ZF gearbox. The final version is the new three-cylinder diesel variant, the 216d, which has average fuel consumption of 3.8 litres per 100km, and which generates 116bhp and 270 Nm of torque. BMW's XDrive system is now also available on the range topping 225i and 220d Active Tourers.

BMW AG announced china sales results for the month and year to date ended August 2014. The company announced that its auto sales in mainland China rose 7.8% year on year to 36,833 units in Aug. 2014. The figure for last month accounted for 25.25% of the company's global sales. In the first eight months of 2014, the company saw its auto sales in mainland China climb to 298,752 units, up 19.9% from a year earlier and accounting for 22.46% of its global sales.

BMW to Invest EUR 700 Million in Munich Plant

BMW will invest at least EUR 700 million in its main plant in Munich in the coming years and create up to 400 new jobs. The sum will be spend on the extension of the body-making factory, the expansion of the assembly line, the construction of a new paint-spray line and the modernisation of the plant's shell. With the investment, a total of 7,800 jobs in the Munich plant will be secured.
