Barclays announced the appointment of Haidar Hammoud as Head of Wealth and Investment Management for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. In this role, Haidar will be responsible for driving the Abu Dhabi business and will work closely with office heads in Singapore, Geneva, London and Dubai. Reporting to Rory Gilbert, Managing Director and Head of the Wealth and Investment Management division in MENA, Haidar will assume the day-to-day management of the business in Abu Dhabi and drive the delivery of the Wealth and Investment Management division growth agenda and targets for the Emirate. Additionally, he will be responsible for providing clients with world class financial advice with a focus on supporting the Ultra High Net Worth segment and large Family offices while providing them access to the entire breath of Barclays global products, services and capabilities to cater for their complex financial needs. Prior to joining the company, Haidar has held several leadership positions at global financial institutions including Deutsche Bank, Citibank, Standard Chartered and BNP Paribas.

Barclays Plc will shed 890 jobs in Spain rather than the 1,100 previously discussed after reaching an agreement with labor unions. The union and the bank told that both sides agreed on an early retirement plan for employees older than 53, which will run alongside a voluntary redundancy plan.

Barclays Plc, on May 13, 2013, won the dismissal of a U.S. lawsuit by shareholders who claimed they lost money because of the British bank's activity. U.S. District Judge Shira Scheindlin in Manhattan said investors who owned Barclays' American depositary shares did not show that Barclays and other defendants, including former Chief Executives John Varley and Bob Diamond, misled them about Libor or took too long to reveal potential liabilities. She also said the investors failed to show that alleged Libor manipulation between August 2007 and January 2009 caused them to lose money through June 2012, when Barclays reached a $453 million (£296 million) settlement with U.S. and European regulators.
