Bridgestone Opens Shenyang Plant in China

Bridgestone has opened a new plant in Shenyang in China's Liaoning Province at its original existing production base. In a company press release, the tyre maker stated that the bus and truck radial tyre (BTR) plant officially opened on 24 September 2014. The plant covers 395,000 square metres and employs 1,325 staff, with annual production capacity to reach 5,000 tyres per day by the first half of 2016. Significance:Bridgestone's plant in Shenyang was originally opened in 1999, but was relocated within Shenyang, prompting the Japanese tyre-maker to create an entire new facility. The relocation was at the request of the Shenyang city government due to increased urbanisation of the city. Goodyear was also asked to relocate its plant in Dalian for similar reasons. Therefore, although technically the Bridgestone Shenyang entity was established in 1999, the plant that opened this month is a brand new BTR facility with a cost of USD 99.9 million. The new facility is located in the Shenyang Chemical Industry Park and is a wholly-owned Bridgestone company. Meanwhile, Bridgestone has expanded its passenger-car tyre plant in Jiangsu Province, and is expanding its product offering in China beyond tyres to produce, process, and sell foamed rubber, urethane, and precision electronic components in China in addition to its seat foam plant in China.

Test Production at Bridgestone Expansion to Start in Fourth Quarter

Bridgestone's expansion in Tatabanya (NW Hungary) will start in the fourth quarter. Plant director Fernando del Cerro told the paper that test production would last several months and that serial production could start next summer. Bridgestone launched the HUF 72 billion expansion in June of 2013. It will raise headcount by some 500 to 900.
