Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited operates as an engineering and manufacturing company worldwide. The company operates through Power and Industry segments. It provides power generation equipment, such as air preheaters, boilers, control relay panels, electrostatic precipitators, fabric filters, fans, gas turbines, hydro power plant, piping systems, pulverizes, pumps, seamless steel tubes, soot blowers, steam generators, steam turbines, turbo generators, and valves. The company also offers industrial systems and products comprising capacitors, ceralin, compressors, desalination plants, diesel generating sets, industrial motors and alternators, gas turbines, oil field equipment, solar photovoltaics, power semiconductor devices, steel castings and forgings; and transmission products, such as power transformers/reactors, instrument transformers, switchgears control and protection equipment, thyristor equipment, insulators, and bushing products. In addition, it provides products for transportation sector that include electric rolling stocks, electrics for rolling stocks, and electrics for urban transportation systems; and non-conventional energy source products consisting of mini/micro hydro sets, solar lanterns, solar photovoltaics, solar water heating systems, and wind electric generators. Further, the company offers fuel cells, surface coatings, automated storage and retrivals, load sensors, and transparent conducting oxide products for research and development purpose. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited was founded in 1964 and is based in New Delhi, India.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. Develops New Boiler for Power Generation

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL) has developed a new kind of boiler. This is one of the key equipment in power generation. Known as ‘Fuel Flexible Supercritical Boilers', this new equipment can help in producing electricity with 100% domestic coal or 100% imported coal. Currently, the companies are required to mix both categories of coal in a fixed ratio and also have to consider few characteristics before blending. Now, with the help of this new boiler, there would not be any such requirements. The new equipment is meant for coal-based power plant also known as thermal power plant. Latest data for power generation states that 3,55,499 billion units of power were generated during April-July of the current year, out of which 2,94,833 billion units were by the thermal power plant. This is 82% of the overall power generation.

Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. announced unaudited earnings results for the first quarter ended June 30, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported net sales/income from operations of INR 50,675.9 million against INR 63,525.5 million, loss from operations before other income, finance costs and exceptional items of INR 546.2 million against profit from operations before other income, finance costs and exceptional items of INR 1,577.8 million, profit from ordinary activates before tax of INR 2,459.0 million against of INR 6,685.0 million and net profit of INR 1,935.0 million or INR 0.79 per basic and diluted share against INR 4,654.3 million or INR 1.90 per basic and diluted share before and after extraordinary items a year ago.
