Beng Kuang Marine Ltd. announced unaudited group earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2013. For the quarter, the company reported revenue of SGD 20,365,000 against SGD 25,015,000 a year ago. This decrease in group revenue was largely due to the lower construction revenue recognized by the IE division during first quarter of 2013, which fell significantly by SGD 4,540,000 year-on-year to SGD 7,240,000. This was mainly because works on most of the division's projects ere completed during fiscal year 2012. In addition, there were no significant projects secured to replenish the order book due to the difficult market conditions. Its current order book consisted mainly of projects of less significant values. Profit before income tax was SGD 496,000 against SGD 975,000 a year ago. Net profit attributable to equity holders of the company was SGD 277,000 or 0.05 cents per fully diluted share against SGD 779,000 or 0.14 cents per fully diluted share a year ago. The group's profit attributable to shareholders fell was mainly due to the significantly lower revenue contribution by the IE division and the foreign exchange loss of SGD 130,000 in first quarter of 2013 compared with foreign exchange gain of SGD 320,000 in first quarter of 2012. Net cash flows used in operating activities was SGD 3,046,000 against net cash flows from operating activities of SGD 6,807,000 a year ago. Addition to property, plant and equipment was SGD 2,237,000 against SGD 6,063,000 a year ago. Net asset value per ordinary share based on issued share capital at end of the period as on March 31, 2013 was 14.51 cents compared to 14.46 cents as on December 31, 2012. The group registered a net operating cash outflow in first quarter of 2013 due mainly to an increase in trade and other receivables arising from delays in the settlement of billings by the CP division with its shipyard customers.
