Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. operates in dredging, dry and maritime infrastructure, and maritime service sectors worldwide. Its Dredging segment constructs and maintenance ports and waterways; and provides land reclamation, coastal defense, and riverbank protection services, as well as engineering, underwater rock fragmentation, environmental, mining, and tunnel building services. The company’s Offshore Energy segment is involved in developing, constructing, maintaining, and decommissioning oil and LNG-import/export facilities, offshore platforms, pipelines, and cables and offshore wind farms. This segment offers subsea and marine services, and subsea and marine contracting services. Its Inland Infra segment operates as a contractor for dry and maritime infrastructure projects. This segment engages in the design, preparation, and execution of civil infra works, such as the construction of roads and railroads, bridges, dams, viaducts, and tunnels; design and construction of quay walls, jetties, breakwaters, and oil and LNG terminals, as well as water purification plants, sewer systems, dams, bridges, power stations, desalination plants, and pumping stations; and performing soil improvement and land remediation works. The company’s Towage & Salvage segment offers harbor towage services to incoming and outgoing ships; and terminal services, such as vessels berthing and unberthing, pilotage, subsea inspection, repair and maintenance, terminal connections coupling and uncoupling, firefighting, escorting, crew and cargo transportation, and bunker vessels operation services. This segment also provides emergency response, salvage, and wreck removal services. The company serves oil, gas, and power companies; port operators; governments; shipping companies; international project developers; insurance companies; and mining companies. It operates a fleet of 1,100 vessels and equipment. The company was founded in 1910 and is headquartered in Papendrecht, the Netherlands.

Boskalis and SAAM Sign MoU for Joint Towage Operations

Royal Boskalis Westminster NV announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sudamericana Agencias Aereas y Maritimas S.A. for a joint harbour towage operation within the American Continent. The partnership would involve two joint ventures and is between SMIT, a wholly owned subsidiary of Boskalis, and SAAM. The geographic scope of the first joint venture covers the Brazilian towage market. Both companies are currently active in Brazil and Boskalis with SMIT will have a 51% majority share in this joint venture. The combination with a total of 41 tug boats will form an important player in the growing market of Brazil. The second joint venture in which SAAM will hold a 51% majority stake relates to the towage activities in Panama and Canada (SMIT) and Mexico (SAAM). The combination will operate a total number of 55 tug boats. The joint operation between SMIT and SAAM will create a leading provider of towage services in Central and South America. Besides operational synergies, the joint operations will also strengthen the market position of the combined companies. The total value of the SMIT and SAAM assets respectively that will be contributed to the combined joint ventures is comparable. The implementation of the MoU is subject to certain customary conditions including a due diligence process and approval from regulatory agencies in the respective countries involved.
