Banco Popolare Società Cooperativa, through its subsidiaries, provides banking and financial services to retail, private, and corporate customers in Italy. The company operates through Network Divisions; Investment & Private Banking, Asset Management; Leasing; and Corporate Centre and Other segments. It offers current accounts, repurchase agreements, certificates of deposit, and a range of savings accounts; and medium-long term loans, ordinary short-term loans, unsecured loans, and mortgage loans, as well as working capital, recovery of liquidity, etc. The company also provides a range of insurance products; agriculture credit; and remote banking and the Vantaggio business portal, cross-border banking, collection and payment, and e-billing services, as well as YouInvoice, an online service. In addition, it is involved in investment banking and asset management activities that include transactions in OTC derivatives, trading in listed securities and derivatives, capital market transactions, and investment management and private banking, as well as leasing business. The company operates approximately 2,000 branches and 2,267 ATMs. Banco Popolare Società Cooperativa is headquartered in Verona, Italy.

BPER Reportedly Planning To Sell Mortgage Loan Portfolio

Banca popolare dell'Emilia Romagna, Società cooperativa. (BIT:BPE) (BPER) is planning to sell assets. MF-Milano Finanza reported quoting financial sources as saying that BPER is finalizing the sale of a mortgage loan portfolio worth around €170 million to The Blackstone Group L.P. (NYSE:BX). The report added that a number of investors are interested in managing the non-performing loans. It also mentioned that Firms including Fortress Investment Group LLC (NYSE:FIG) have expressed interest in acquiring tha assets, but Blackstone is set to buy BPER's mortgage loan portfolio. Blackstone is also said to be interested in loan portfolio of Banco Popolare's (BIT:BP) Release S.p.A, the newspaper added. It added that the sale of Release's assets will need a few more months to be completed.

Sale Of Release Halted

Banco Popolare Societa Cooperativa Scarl (BIT:BP) Chief Executive Officer, Pier Francesco Saviotti told Il Sole 24 Ore that sale of Release S.p.A has been halted indefinitely, as offers received for the were "not compatible with the best interests of our shareholders". One of the options under consideration is for the bank to sell chunks of bad loans, talks for which are ongoing, he added. He stated that rather than selling the unit, it would now instead seek to "add value to the asset".

Gruppo Banco Popolare Reports Earnings Results for the First Quarter of 2014

Gruppo Banco Popolare reported earnings results for the first quarter of 2014. For the quarter, the company reported net loss of EUR 19 million. The net income is the result of the sum of company's result plus EUR 24.1 million and the Italease's result loss of EUR 22.9 million. Revenue line, that is net interest income, with a minus 8% year-on-year and a minus 4.5% quarter-on-quarter. This decline was primarily driven by a decline in average loans by the branch network of a little less than EUR 5 billion and by the containment of customer spread, which is associated with the liability spread. The 4.5% decline quarter-on-quarter is mainly associated with volumes which is average loans declined by less of EUR 1.5 billion. Net financial result was up by 15.2% year-on-year, net of the fair value option, EUR 88 million with contribution made by Banca Aletti of 53% EUR 47 million, which basically are linked to structured products which are prepared by Banca Aletti with respect to the branch network products.
