Basil Read Holdings Limited operates as a construction company in South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. The company is engaged in the civil engineering, road construction, building, mixed integrated housing developments, property development, bitumen distribution, opencast mining, blasting and engineering, and project management solutions. It operates through Construction, Mining, Engineering, and Developments divisions. The Construction division undertakes civil engineering, roads, and building projects, including earthworks, bridges, pipelines, infrastructure, harbour and marine works, industrial plants, sports facilities, roads, highways, and airports and related industrial activities. The division also offers build-operate-transfer contracts, design and construct, and alternative solutions. The Mining division is engaged in the opencast contract mining; mine spoils rehabilitation; bulk earthmoving; thin, thick, and multiple seam mining; hard-rock selective mining, and materials handling. This division also provides blasting services to the construction, quarrying, and mining industries. The Engineering division is involved in the engineering, procurement, and construction services, as well as renewable energy operations. The Developments division focuses on housing developments, mixed use residential estates, and light industrial parks. This division serves national, provincial, and local governments; parastatals; and non-governmental organizations. The company was founded in 1952 and is headquartered in Boksburg, South Africa.

For certain of these contracts, the group is currently finalising claims to be submitted, but has not included any of these claims and/or possible penalties in projecting the estimated earnings and headline earnings decline.
