Basil Read Holdings Limited, through its subsidiaries, engages in the civil engineering, road construction, building, mixed integrated housing development, property development, bitumen distribution, opencast mining and engineering design, procurement and construction management, and related services in South Africa and internationally. The company’s Construction segment undertakes various civil engineering, road, and building projects, including earthworks, bridges, pipelines, township infrastructure, harbor and marine works, industrial plants, sports facilities, stadiums, roads, highways, airports and related industrial facilities, retail and office complexes, residential housing, apartment blocks, educational facilities, hospitals, and correctional facilities, as well as supplies and sprays bitumen and related products. Its Mining segment engages in the opencast contract mining, mine spoils rehabilitation, bulk earthmoving, hard-rock selective mining, and materials handling operations, as well as thin, thick, and multiple seam mining operations. This segment also provides drilling and blasting services for construction, quarrying, and mining industries. The company’s Engineering segment handles various projects, such as engineering, procurement, and construction; and build, own, operate, and transfer projects. This segment is also involved in the plant, process, and mine operations; design and architectural activities; and renewable energy operations. Its Developments segment develops affordable housing developments, mixed-use residential estates, and light industrial parks. This segment serves national, provincial, and local governments; parastatals; and non-governmental organizations. The company was founded in 1952 and is headquartered in Boksburg, South Africa.
