BT Group plc provides communications solutions and services worldwide. It operates in four segments: BT Global Services, BT Retail, BT Wholesale, and Openreach. The BT Global Services segment provides managed networked IT services to large corporate and public sector customers. The BT Retail segment provides voice and broadband services for retail consumers; and fixed calls and lines, broadband, mobility, and IT services, as well as data and voice networks to small and medium enterprises. It also offers conferencing, directory enquiry, fire and intruder alarm signaling, CCTV and surveillance networks, control room, public payphones and managed prison, and card and private payphones services, as well as specialist services for the retail sector, including store point of sale systems, back-office applications, and software and platforms for Website transactions. The BT Wholesale segment provides a range of voice, broadband, and data communications services for fixed and mobile network operators, Internet service providers, and telecoms resellers. The Openreach segment provides services over the local loop network, as well as offers backhaul services that connect exchanges to CPs’ networks. The company was formerly known as British Telecommunications plc and changed its name to BT Group plc on November 19, 2001. BT Group plc was founded in 1984 and is based in London, United Kingdom.

Marathon Patent Group, Inc. announced that its subsidiary Relay IP has filed patent infringement lawsuits in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware against Sprint Nextel Corporation, Juniper Networks, Cisco Systems, Bloomberg L.P., Hitachi Cable America, D-Link Corporation, Avaya, Hewlett-Packard Company, Enterasys Networks, Extreme Networks, TIBCO Software, BT Group, SAVVIS Inc., Zhone Technologies, Huawei Technologies, Allied Telesis, and Adtran (the "Defendants"). Relay is asserting infringement related to U.S. Patent number 5,331,637, entitled Multicast Routing Using Core Based Trees. The lawsuit alleges that the Defendants have infringed, and continue to infringe, the claims of the patent in suit by using the accused IP Multicast systems and methods covered by the claims of the Relay patent.
