The company also provides pharmaceutical products, including Tiazac XC, Wellbutrin XL, Zovirax, Benzaclin, and Penlac; and Cold-FX, an OTC product in Canada, as well as Duromine/Metermine, Difflam, Duro-Tuss, and Rikodeine in Australia. In addition, it offers a range of treatments, including antibiotics, treatments for cardiovascular and neurological diseases, dermatological products, and diabetic therapies, as well as a range of various OTC products in Europe; and products for a range of therapeutic classes, including vitamin deficiency, antibacterials, and dermatology in Mexico and Brazil. Further, the company provides Duromine, Andolex, and Pholtex products in South Africa; and Difflam, Duro-Tuss, Tambocor, and Norgesic in Asia. The company was formerly known as Biovail Corporation and changed its name to Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc. in September 2010. Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc. (TSX:VRX) seeks acquisitions. Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc. has filed a preliminary prospectus to raise gross proceeds of approximately $1.75 billion. Valeant plans to use the net proceeds with debt financing, to fund the merger of Bausch + Lomb Holdings Incorporated and repayment or retirement of Bausch + Lomb's outstanding debt. If the Merger were not to close for any reason, the proceeds will be used for general corporate purposes, which may include providing working capital, funding capital expenditures or for making one or more future acquisitions.
Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc. (TSX:VRX) has pulled back from its possible bid for Galenika a.d. from the Serbian government in the wake of its $8.7 billion purchase of Bausch & Lomb Holdings Incorporated. Valeant Pharmaceuticals’ said that the acquisition of Bausch & Lomb as the hostility of local unions towards the purchase of Galenika Pharmaceuticals it had decided not to follow up its letter of intent relating to Galenika's privatization. "Major reasons for this decision are (the) recently announced agreement to acquire Bausch & Lomb and publicly expressed hostile attitude of Galenika, trade unions and employees," Mirko Bogdanov, Head of the European unit of Valeant Pharmaceuticals North America said in a letter to Serbian Finance Minister, Mladjan Dinkic. Reuters reported that the officials from the Serbian Finance Ministry were not immediately available for comment.
Serbian government extended for another two weeks a deadline for bids for its Galenika a.d. Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc. (TSX:VRX) is the sole candidate so far. The finance ministry said the new deadline was June 14, 2013 the fourth extension since offers were first invited on January 14, 2013.
