Cabela's Incorporated reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2013. For the quarter, the company reported total revenue of $802,497,000 against $623,504,000 a year ago. Operating income was $79,115,000 against $46,576,000 a year ago. Income before provision for income taxes was $75,298,000 against $43,473,000 a year ago. Net income was $49,847,000 or $0.70 per diluted share against $28,826,000 or $0.40 per diluted share a year ago. For the quarter, cash flow from operations was $123 million and capital expenditures were $65 million.
For the quarter, the company reported net charge-offs on credit card loans of $15,585,000 compared to $14,846,000 a year ago.
With the company’s accelerating store growth plans, the company expects full year 2013 capital expenditures to be between $300 million $325 million. The company ended the quarter with about $82 million of cash in its Merchandising business. This cash, combined with cash flow from operations, which is expected to be $250 million to $300 million in 2013, should allow it to internally fund store growth through 2014.

Cabela's Incorporated announced plans to bring the extraordinary company's retail experience to customers in the north Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, area. Construction is scheduled to begin this summer and company's plans to open the store in the spring of 2014. The 50,000-square-foot store will be located in the Manning Town Centre located on Manning Drive in north Edmonton. It will be company's second store in the Edmonton area, joining the 70,000-square-foot location opened in 2011. The store is expected to employ approximately 150 full-time, part-time and seasonal employees. Most will come from Edmonton and the surrounding area. The store will be built in company's next-generation Canada layout, designed to surround customers in an outdoor-like experience with museum-quality wildlife displays. In addition to thousands of quality outdoor products, the store will include a large mountain replica, a Gun Library, Bargain Cave, Indoor Archery Range and Fudge Shop. Also, the company announced plans to open a 100,000-square-foot store in Tualatin, Ore, in fall 2014.

Cabela's Incorporated announced plans to bring the unique Cabela's shopping experience to customers in Tualatin, Ore., and the greater Portland area. Construction on the 100,000-square-foot store is expected to begin this fall and Cabela's plans for a fall 2014 grand opening. It will be Cabela's second store in Oregon, joining the 58,000-square-foot Springfield location. The interior of the new store will feature Cabela's next-generation layout, designed to surround customers in an outdoor-like experience with trophy animal mounts and displays. The store will be located in a redeveloped area across Interstate 5 from the Nyberg Woods shopping center. The new area, being developed by CenterCal Properties, is planned to include approximately 300,000-square-feet of retail space.
