Grupo Televisa, S.A.B. announced that, effective April 1, 2013, Carlos Álvarez will become Chief Executive Officer of Empresas Cablevisión, S.A.B. de C.V. Mr. Álvarez will replace Jean Paul Broc, who will join Televisa’s Cable and Telecommunications division as Executive Vice President of Operations. Mr. Álvarez comes to Cablevisión with more than 20 years of experience in the cable and telecommunications industry. Since 1991, he held the title of Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Board of Directors of Cablemás Telecomunicaciones S.A. de C.V.
Empresas Cablevision, S.A. de C.V. reported earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2011. For the quarter, the company posted revenues of MXN 1.72 billion, up 15.3% compared to MXN 1.49 billion in the year-ago period. The company's net profit dropped 31.2% in the quarter to MXN 47.1 million, compared to MXN 68.5 million in the same period a year ago, as sales and administrative costs, as well as depreciation and amortization, outpaced the revenue growth. For the first half, net income plummeted 87.9% year-over-year to MXN 8.6 million, much for the same reasons. The company posted sales of MXN 3.38 billion, up 17.4% compared to MXN 2.87 billion in the same period last year.
Empresas Cablevision, S.A. de C.V. has invested close to $400 million to revamp 18,000 km of its fiber optic and coaxial network over the last three years. The company has set an additional $70 million capex for the rest of the year for several other activities.
