Canon Announces Three New PowerShot Digital Cameras

B&H Photo announced the official release of three PowerShot digital cameras from Canon: the 20.2MP G7 X with 1" sensor, the long zoom SX60 HS, and compact N2. PowerShot G7 X Digital Camera: The PowerShot G7 X Digital Camera creates a new tier in the Canon point-and-shoot lineup, sandwiched between the G16 and the GX 1 Mark II. It combines a 20.2MP 1" High-Sensitivity CMOS sensor with a DIGIC 6 Image Processor &to produce high quality still imagery and record full HD 1080p video at 60 fps. Its low-light sensitivity extends to ISO 12800, which when combined with the lens's maximum aperture range of f/1.8-2.8 allows to capably shoot in low-light situations. A 4.2x optical zoom lens provides an equivalent focal range of 24-100mm, and has built-in Intelligent Image Stabilization (IS). High-Speed AF enables a top focusing speed of 0.14 sec, and 31 AF points allow for quick and precise focus. With no buffer time, the G7 X can shoot 6.5fps continuously at full resolution. Additionally, a built-in ND filter allows to shoot with wider apertures in bright conditions. A multi-angle 3" LCD folds up 180deg so that user can see it while composing self-portraits. And for improved handling, a control ring, exposure dial, and mode dial permit intuitive manual adjustments; while built-in Wi-Fi connectivity with NFC and a Mobile Device Connect Button let quickly pair camera to compatible devices. PowerShot SX60 HS Digital Camera: The new PowerShot SX60 HS Digital Camera is an upgrade to the SX50 HS, utilizing a 16.1MP 1/2.3" High-Sensitivity Sensor and a DIGIC 6 Image Processor instead of the 12.1MP and DIGIC 5 of the SX50. Its focal range has also been improved; with a 65x optical zoom, the SX60 has a 35mm-equivalent focal range of 21-1365mm, compared to the SX50's 24-1200mm range. The SX60 even includes a microphone input, a first for Canon PowerShots, as well as a dedicated movie button for recording Full HD 1080p video at 60 fps. UltraSonic and Voice Coil Motors allow for quick, near-silent autofocus and zooming while Zoom Framing Assist helps to track and capture subjects by zooming in and out automatically. Also, High-Speed AF enables quick and precise focus, and the SX60 can shoot 6.4fps continuously at full resolution with no buffer time. The 3" Vari-Angle LCD folds out and rotates for assistance while working at odd angles and for composing self-portraits. Built-in Wi-Fi connectivity with NFC and a Mobile Device Connect Button are included to let user quickly pair camera to compatible devices. PowerShot N2 Digital Camera: The Canon PowerShot N2 Digital Camera replaces the N, and upgrades the line to a 16.1MP 1/2.3" High-Sensitivity Sensor and DIGIC 6 Image Processor. It also uses the same 8x optical zoom lens as the N, which has a 35mm-equivalent focal range of 28-224mm and built-in Intelligent IS. A 2.8" LCD touchscreen folds up 180deg so that user can see it while composing self-portraits, and a control ring on the front of the camera triggers the shutter and controls the zoom for both stills and Full HD 1080p video. There is also built-in Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity allow user to easily transfer files to compatible devices, and a Mobile Device Connect Button allows for one touch connection to smartphone or tablet. The Canon N2 can utilize a Creative Shot mode to create unique images with artistic filters, and an advance movie shooting feature automatically combines slow-motion and quick-motion movies with various filters. The N2 camera is available in White or Black.

Canon Releases Three New Lenses

B&H Photo announced the official release of three lenses from Canon: the EF 400mm f/4 DO IS II USM, EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM, and the EF-S 24mm f/2.8 IS STM. These new lenses all feature image stabilization and are a welcome addition to Canon's extensive lineup. Canon EF 400mm f/4 DO IS II USM Lens; The first new lens from Canon is a 400mm dust- and water-resistant super telephoto lens featuring a lightweight design that is ideal for sports and wildlife photography. It is an upgrade to the existing 400mm f/4 DO lens, adding newly developed gapless dual-layer diffractive elements to reduce flare while providing enhanced clarity. An Optical Image Stabilizer reduces the appearance of camera shake by up to four stops, and has three distinct modes -- standard, panning, and during exposure only -- to benefit different methods of shooting. AF stop buttons and full-time manual focus override complement seamless handling, and a Power Focus mode enables smooth focus shifts while shooting video. The optical design features one large-diameter aspherical element and one UD element, as well as optimized coatings for improved contrast, color accuracy, and clarity while minimizing ghosting and flare. Fluorine coatings on the front and rear lens surfaces further help to reduce smears and fingerprints. Additionally, a circular nine-blade aperture provides pleasing out-of focus areas. Included with the lens are a hood, case, and strap for the case, dust cap, lens strap, and a drop-in gelatin filter holder. EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM: The next lens is the Canon EF 24-105mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM. It is a standard zoom for EOS DSLRs, and is the first EF-mount lens for full-frame-sensor cameras to include a lead screw-type stepping motor (STM). The focusing mechanism supports Canon's Movie Servo AF mode to provide smooth, near-silent continuous AF while shooting both stills and video, and a high-speed CPU delivers quick performance. It features a seven-group optical zoom system and an Optical Image Stabilizer that reduces the appearance of camera shake. The lens has one UD element and two aspherical elements, as well as enhanced lens coatings for improved contrast and clarity. Additionally, a circular seven-blade diaphragm helps to produce a pleasing out-of focus quality for selective-focus applications. The optional, dedicated EW-83M Lens Hood is also available.EF-S 24mm f/2.8 IS STM Lens: Lastly, Canon has also announced the EF-S 24mm f/2.8 IS STM, a wide-angle, 38mm equivalent lens for APS-C-sized EOS cameras. It features an Optical Image Stabilizer along with a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture and, as of the release date, it is Canon's slimmest and lightest EF-S lens. Like the 24-105mm, the 24mm has an STM mechanism for smooth, near-silent AF during video and still shooting. The lens's construction includes one aspherical element to help minimize aberrations and distortions, and coated elements also work to reduce lens flare and ghosting. Full-time manual focus is possible with the lens, and it has a minimum focusing distance of 6".

Canon Announces to Launch New Range of Inkjet Printers

Canon announced a significant update to its small business print portfolio with the launch of MAXIFY, a new range of business inkjet printers designed to support the demand from small and home offices for high-volume colour printing. Available from October, but being showcased at Technology Exposed for the first time next month, Canon’s new MAXIFY inkjet printer range consists of four multi-functional devices (MFDs), the MAXIFY MB2050, MB2350, MB5050 and MB5350, as well as one single-function printer (SFP), the iB4050. The MAXIFY range provides small business customers with connected devices that produce professional quality colour printing and high-quality copying, scanning and faxing whether in or out of the office at a competitive price point. All of the models in the new MAXIFY range have been designed with durability in mind to reliably handle the high print volumes required by small and home offices. The devices in the range have been designed to support home office environments, with the print capacity varying from 1,000 to up to 30,000 pages per month. The new devices also maximise productivity in the office with a First Print Out Time (ISO-FPOT) as low as seven seconds and A4 print speeds at 23 ipm for black-and-white and 15 ipm for colour. In addition, the MAXIFY MB5350 features the company’s new Single Pass 2-sided Scan functionality, which allows both sides of the document to be scanned simultaneously, as a result allowing the scan and copy speeds to be enhanced and saving valuable time. Business quality colour inkjet printing at a competitive price Delivering high-quality inkjet printing at a competitive price, the MAXIFY printers use a new Dual Resistant High Density (DRHD) ink that has been designed specifically for the range. Building on the company’s FINE ink technology, the new ink is specially formulated for business documents and is water, friction and marker resistant for extra durability. Allowing small businesses to produce high quality documents, the DRHD ink delivers striking black text and vivid colours on graphics, whilst also enabling small businesses to benefit from low cost per page printing. The range delivers cost-effective colour prints to new high-yield XL ink tanks. Aimed at home offices, the MAXIFY MB2050 and MB2350 produce up to 1,200 black-and-white pages, while the small office MAXIFY printers, the MB5050, MB5350 and iB4050, produce up to 2,500 black-and-white pages before cartridges need to be replaced, reducing printer downtime. Supporting a connected office With a host of connectivity features, the company’s MAXIFY range is perfect for flexible working and for office spaces where printers are shared by a team or small businesses. Wi-Fi connectivity allows the printers to deliver wireless printing from mobile devices. Canon’s MAXIFY Cloud Link offers printing from and scanning directly from the printer screen to cloud storage providers such as Evernote, Dropbox, OneDrive and Google Drive. In addition, the company’s MAXIFY Printing Solutions App delivers similar functionality via a smartphone or tablet. The printers are also compatible with mobile printing solutions such as Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print. The MAXIFY MB2050, MB2350, MB5050, MB5350 printers also feature the company’s scan to email function, which allows users to save time and send scanned documents and images as email attachments directly from the printer. Monitor and control costs: Gaining greater visibility of the printing habits of a small business also helps to identify usage patterns and arms small businesses with the information they need to control print costs. The new MAXIFY range has been designed with this in mind, featuring control options that allow business owners to restrict specific functions, for example protecting the ability to copy in colour by setting a password. The new printers also offer the option to keep a record of total volumes printed, scanned or faxed, to allow users to get a better picture of how the device is being used in the office.
