Central Garden & Pet Company produces and sells products for the pet, and lawn and garden supplies markets primarily in the United States. The company’s pet supplies products comprise products for dogs and cats, including edible bones, edible and non-edible chews, dog and cat food and treats, toys, pet carriers, grooming supplies, and other accessories; and products for birds, small animals, and specialty pets, such as food, cages and habitats, toys, chews, and related accessories. It also offers animal and household health and insect control products; products for fish, reptiles, and other aquarium-based pets consisting of aquariums, furniture and lighting fixtures, pumps, filters, water conditioners, food and supplements, and information and knowledge resources; and products for horses and livestock. These products are sold under various brand names, including Adams, Altosid, Aqueon, Avoderm, BioSpot, Coralife, Farnam, Four Paws, Interpet, Kaytee, Kent Marine, Nylabone, Oceanic Systems, Pet Select, Pre Strike, Pinnacle, Super Pet, TFHTM, Zilla, and Zodiac. The company’s lawn and garden products include proprietary and non-proprietary grass seed; wild bird feed, bird feeders, bird houses, and other birding accessories; weed, grass, ant and other herbicide, insecticide, and pesticide products; and decorative outdoor lifestyle and lighting products comprising pottery, trellises and other wood products, and holiday lighting products. These products are sold under the AMDRO, GKI/Bethlehem Lighting, Grant’s, Ironite, Lilly Miller, Matthews Four Seasons, New England Pottery, Norcal Pottery, Pennington, Over-N-Out, Sevin, Smart Seed, and The Rebels names. Central Garden & Pet Company sells its products directly to national and regional retail chains, independent garden distributors, grocery stores, nurseries, and garden supply retailers. The Company was founded in 1955 and is based in Walnut Creek, California.

Net income attributable to company was $22,196,000 or $0.46 diluted per share compared to $21,623,000 or $0.45 diluted per share a year ago. For the six months, net sales were $790,666,000 compared to $768,969,000 a year ago. Income from operations was $33,652,000 compared to $33,942,000 a year ago. Income before income taxes and noncontrolling interest was $11,463,000 compared to $13,862,000 a year ago. Net income attributable to company was $6,927,000 or $0.14 diluted per share compared to $8,533,000 or $0.18 diluted per share a year ago. The Company believes it is likely that its fiscal third quarter 2013 results will be lower than the prior year.
