Capitol Federal Financial, Inc. announced unaudited consolidated financial results for the third quarter and nine months ended June 30, 2014. For the quarter, the company reported total interest and dividend income of $71.921 million against $71.857 million a year ago. Net interest income was $46.198 million against $45.727 million a year ago. Income before income tax expense was $29.130 million against $29.466 million a year ago. Net income available to common stockholders was $19.942 million or $0.14 per diluted share against $19.644 million or $0.14 per diluted share a year ago. Return on average assets (annualized) was 0.88% against 0.87% a year ago. Return on average equity (annualized) was 5.20% against 5.10% a year ago. The increase in net income was due primarily to a decrease in income tax expense, as well as to a decrease in interest expense on Federal Home Loan Bank borrowings. Net interest income after provision for credit losses was $45.891 million against $45.567 million a year ago.
